................last night as I was gathering eggs I was marking the hatching egg with another *X* so its on both sides so I didn't have to keep looking under every egg to see if it was a hatching one. I candled a couple eggs but really could not see anything. It was still sort of light out & way to early so I am hoping next Thursday (day 10) I can see something.

My Mom said both Lucy & Sophie were out in the yard when she stopped over. Hopefully they went back on later after they had some dinner.

So last night I thought I had Stella proofed the compost/veggie garden. All day she was where she was supposed to be. Then my Mom sent me this when she stopped to feed them tonight

No that's not where she is suppose to be. That gate goes to the yard & is in the veggie garden area

UGH !!!
Hopefully the game cam caught her on tape on how she is getting out since I blocked her other escape routes.

I think I am going to loan her out to others who wonder if their chicken areas are escape proof. She certainly finds other ways to get out

Why can't they respect fences? Found my RIR inside my garden today. I surrounded it with deer netting at the beginning of the week. It's not like the garden has anything special to offer... nothing much growing yet. and there's 4 more acres at her disposal, but, oh no... gotta dig up the garden.

Bugs in organic feed? Acceptable or no?

Don't get me wrong, my chickens free range and eat plenty of bugs. I'm But I don't think bugs should be in the feed eating up the good stuff potentially leaving the feed unbalanced in nutrients.

I had my husband return a bag of organic feed because there were bugs throughout it. It was also a little more green tinged than I expected and the date had been torn off the label tag. They tried to tell him it was boll weevil season and we wouldn't be able to find feed without bugs if no pesticides had been used.

I called BS and he got our money back. I doubt if I buy from there again. My regular source was out.

The bugs didn't even look like the boll weevil pictures I've found online. We bought organic feed all last summer without bugs.

keeping my fingers crossed - supposed to pick up 4 legbar chicks hatching this weekend.

I want to add them to the three sulmtalers, of which one is a mama with 2 week old chicks, one is an imposter mama trying to mother those chicks, and one is indifferent to the chicks. Hoping to tuck the 4 hatchlings under the imposter mama at night, and hoping for the best.
