Glad to see you Vicki. How are all those new chicks?

They are growing well..

I have culled down to some really nice birds already.
I sold my whole flock of Blue Laced Red Wyandottes..I am focusing on Silver laced Wyandottes, Orpingtons, and Ameracuana's. I need some good quality white silkie pullets..
I need to take some time and post pictures.

I am really happy with my Gold Laced. I am planning on doing a display at Ohio Nationals. If anyone has any suggestions or has done it before can you shoot me a pm please. This will be my very first display and introduction to a new color variety.

Cookie is doing well and is growing so fast. She is 5 months old now and is larger than our lab.

Glad to hear they are all doing well. I've seen some of the pics via FB and I just drool over them. Such beautiful birds!!!
Glad to hear cookie is doing well also. Is cookie bonding with the birds ok? Less predator issues now?

I, for one, sure love reading your posts. Do what you need to do, for you, but you are important to lots of us on this thread.

So excited to have you back, Jane (Mumsy.) terribly sorry to hear of all your tribulations. You and your family and flock are in my thoughts and prayers.

Delisha, any popping in you can do is greatly enjoyed and appreciated!

My broody girls tonight. No Idea why they are sitting side way cramped together. That is something new today. All the other hens are laying in the temporary nesting box. Maybe so the chicks have somewhere to go after they hatch?

Day 21 is Sunday. It's the day I leave for vacation so I am hoping maybe one will hatch before I go. But the game can is all set to go in so if I do miss it I hopefully get a few pics of the event . 2 eggs are def developing, 4 I can't tell and I removed 3 that were def clear. I started out with 12, two got cracked and I have no idea what happened to the last one. No egg customers have commented on getting an egg with an X on it lol

update on the impacted crop:

SOLVED

I just went out to check on her before she had a chance to eat, and her crop is totally empty. It actually took me a minute to be sure I had the right bird in the dim light of my torch.

The lesson learned is, when isolating and withholding food for crop issues, also put the bird in a cage with no bedding or grit. Nothing but water for several days, then liquid food like raw egg and coconut oil - I'm convinced her crop had soured due to the blockage, and the c.o. helped kill the infection.

So there you have it, surgery has been avoided. Thank the Lord!

she hatches this weekend or early in the morning Sunday so I can see the new chick. If not Im hoping the game cam catches them. I need to figure out where to put it so its not set up every time a hen moves in the coop.

thinking of ditching the rooster so the current flock, the new legbar chicks, and the sulmtalers and hatched chicks can all be in one coop! Its nuts taking care of three separate groups.

I think 4 of the 6 chicks are pullets...2 for sure are cockerals and one is probably a pullet but possibly not...


Here are the babies piled up in the little coop. The hatching mama is the one in the corner. 5 of the 6 chicks are visible in the pic, spread out in the feathers of all three hens!

Adorable. I haven't had more than two co-parents yet. The only time I tried they smothered a bunch of chicks fighting over who kept them warm. One hen kept going under the others, and that is where the problem arose.
