Soap boxes are a good thing. If you have enough of them you can get around pretty good without getting your feet dirty! The only thing worse than night time lights messing up a beautiful sky, is the neighbor who has to have the radio blaring when ever they're outside, and sometimes even when they aren't.

Turk, Caponizing is a wonderful skill to posess. I truly wish I had someone to mentor me through the process.

Check this out... for those that consider lighting during the winter months this may be of interest:
yeah, it drives me nuts when someone builds a house and immediately puts outdoor lights on the garage/house, etc and leaves them on dawn to dusk. so many fewer stars to be seen with all the light in the world, and there is a correlation with breast cancer and nighttime light, even night lights or lights outside shining in your bedroom. I'm very anti-light - people keep giving me solar light things to put on a pathway, etc, but I like the stars. Have no quarrel with using outdoor lighting, just, for petes sake turn it off when you aren't outside using it! ok, stepping off my soapbox (and darned, I have so many  )
My spot light on the coop is solar powered and on a motion detector. Great for late nights out to the coops. My garage lights are the same way. If they go on I know something moved outside. I prefer the dark as well but I have to say my solar powered lights are colored so not as harsh at night. I have them around the perimeter of the veggie garden. I could probably see them better if my neighbors vapor light on her garage was not on 24/7. It seems this light bulbs never burn out. lol (she is elderly so I don't terribly mind it since it makes it easier to see her hidden driveway). And thankfully my bedroom is on the opposite side of the house. As for the wood shavings. I use deep litter method so I only clean the coop out once or twice a year. But I do use more during the winter since they are in the coop more. And I use it in their covered areas as well during the winter so they are not walking in the snow as much. Besides I am all about free :)

Well....since wer'e talking about the avatar photo...

I just have a really hard time even looking at the Joker photo. (Sorry) I've always found any of the Jokers pretty hideous. A very strong aversion to describe it mildly. When I saw it on your avatar I had to purposely look away from it.

There's probably therapy for that.

That's your Dad's rabbit? Ugh! I had his name on my tongue and it just flew away... totally gone. I remember that rabbit belonging to someone who had a big flock of naked necks and his son just came home from the military not too long ago. Was that you? Or are there two crazy dads out there with crazy rabbits?

Not quite sure how to receive your post but I guess you are lucky I'm not one who is quick to hit the red flag.

I'm sure there are many 'crazy dads' out here but your're on the mark, to a point. You should be so crazy as he is. In fact, that is my dad and he has three kids...I'm Son #2 and we have a younger sister.

Your post is equivocal so have care when posting about my family in the future.
