The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

So this could get interesting. I let the flock out to putter this morning, and of course it started to snow.

The juniors hunkered down under the trees, while the seniors hung out behind the wood shed.

Now the juniors are hanging out in the seniors coop, and the seniors are still hunkering behind the woodshed, and the snow is getting deeper. I'm guessing things will sort themselves out by nightfall but I am wondering if I'm going to have to shovel a path for these silly birds to get home, and whether the juniors will lay claim to the seniors coop rather than subject their dainty toes to the snow. Although this one doesn't seem to care.
It will be interesting to see what they do later. If you can resist herding them in.

Well, everyone is in finally in their assigned places. Plucked one of my Barnevelders out of a tree. The minute I deposited her in the run my buff orpingtion cockerel jumped her and wouldn't let go of her head even though she was squawking and trying to escape.

He's now in the quarantine pen in my garage, and the workers at the tree farm up the street are going to have happy thanksgiving.

@leahs m

How old is your girl? My 2 oldest hens had a hard natural molt this year. I'm wondering if it's just because of their age or because of the weather? They are still growing in those feathers. They seem to be taking longer this year. Or maybe it's just because they lost so many feathers. Just seems weird.
