The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Lol...I remember granny pouring water on the porch and scrubbing with the broom....now I know what she was doing....prehose days or at least I don't think we had hoses up there in the mountains back then.
well, duh no way to hook the hose up to the pump.

the same can be said about this site.  when i first got my hens, i was reading different threads and was astounded.  I was upset, thinking-gosh-they are chickens, this seems way harder than i expected.  then i found the older raising naturally thread and calmed down.
someone, I think mlowen, mentioned about mayonnaise.  I always made mine in my food processor, but just stumbled on making it in a jar with a stick blender in minutes.  this is fantastic, came out perfect and really simple.   http://thehealthyfoodie.com/fail-proof-home-made-paleo-mayo-whole30-compliant/

I used to use this recipe or almost same one years ago. I could not find it...thanks for posting it...I now have a jar in my fridge thanks to you. I do AIP instead of whole30 but I think it is approved. Thank you!

I love free ranging but I really need to block off my porch! Finding eggs on the porch wouldn't be bad...but the fertilizer is not great. When I first got the chickens I never dreamed they would take over the porch!

This is Bam-Bam a guinea, he visits his reflection to peck at it every day on my front window while standing on the deck railing.
Yes there is fertilizer I have to sweep off the deck and railing but I would miss him if he didn't greet me every day =).
In the summer is when all the hens come to sit on the porch ramp to warm in the sun. I noticed they haven't done it so far this winter.
The "fertilizer" is a little more difficult in the summer I do have to scrub it off then. hehe.

How cute, I love having animals of all types around. Anytime we let our four dogs out back, the chickens will run to the gate, expecting me. They also gather around the free range front fence anytime we are out in front. They alway expect something from us, guess they have us well trained!

Aw he's cute......my hubby says guineas are too loud :( But I have enough chickens to keep me happy. I don't notice the rooster much so I doubt guineas would bother me.

I have to tell you, a rooster is nothing compared to a pack of guineas. They will drown out every other sound, motors, etc. When alarmed, I think they would drown out a chainsaw! I know some people don't mind them, but I would have to move out.
