The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

That's a lot, my turkeys are all in one pen except for when I'm raising poults. How many total do you keep?

I have 8 adults and I think, 39 poults. Around the same number of chicks. My goal was to hatch enough to put a years worth into the freezer for the dogs and I. I didn't hatch nearly enough chicks, so I hope to make up for that with the turkeys.

I love using essential oils on our chickens! We ran over a chicken's leg with a chicken tractor and broke it in 2 different places. We used a combination of essential oils and he was better in 1 week.

Usually when there is a balance issue or leg/foot issue it is related to the "B" vitamins.  The brewers yeast is usually a good remedy for that... wonderful news!

Thanks for that info. Many years ago I saw a Brewers yeast / garlic powder combo in the health food store marketed as a flea etc dust for pets. I have used it ever since usually a sprinkle in their water periodically. However then I found a tablet in the pet section of a store and use it as a treat.

Drat. Do you think that maybe in 100 years I will learn how to do the quotes and replys and posts correctly?

At the bottom right corner of every post you read, there are 3 boxes: Multi: (this will allow you to quote more than one post) Quote: (this will immediately quote that post and immediately open up a reply window for you to respond. Reply: will send you to a reply window without doing any quotes. Seems redundant to me. Just hit the multi box every time you want to respond to someone, then when you're done scrolling to the end of the thread, hit the quote box, and you're ready to go. I like to quote, because I suffer CRS, it helps me to organize responses.

If you are on the mobile app, just hit the little " button below the quote you want to reply to. You'll see a blue bar near the bottom of the screen. Tap that, and a reply box will pop up. Just start typing after the quote. You'll get the hang of it Crista!
