The Never Ending Hatching thread! For those of us that hatch all year long!

"add little fat birdies, food, water and heat" Sounds like a recipe for soup. lol

Yep, that's one reason I have a separate cooler/hatcher so I don't have to change humidity in the incubator and can have staggered hatches. It works out OK until one explodes or you have some hatch out in there, then you have to clean it. I like the turner because it keeps them in order AND I forget to turn them. They really didn't seem to mind, they just found an empty cup and sat in it.
It is like you.are bringing something to life that wouldn't have been without you.

What a cool B-Day present. Did you plan it that way? Good Luck!

Ummmm...they ARE meat birds, so they COULD end up being soup, but more likely will end up as homemade chicken strips around here.

I would be afraid they would get caught between the rails.

Looky what I got for a box of chickies last night

8 ft long, 2 ft high, 2 ft wide, pen 1 is 24 inches square, other 4 are 24x24x18...perfect for banty pairs/trios or isolating injured birds or excess roos.

What a deal! I'm jealous. That's just what I need to isolate hens to see what they are laying. I looked into trap nesting but that's too much engineering for me.

i'm thinking of removing as soon as they hatch and making a tote into a chicky dryer. You know have the lightbulb in it where it can get nice and dry without rolling the eggs in the hatcher around. But i'd have to put a bowl of rice in it to keep the moisture down. I'm in washington. The humidity in the air outside today is 70% in the house i manage to keep it at 40 to 50% that is as low as i can get the humidity in my house.

Once they are hatched, I don't worry too much about the humidity. I'd try it and I bet you will find they do just fine!!

Lol, I actually didn't plan it that way. I decided one night that I wanted to try to hatch some eggs, so I set up the bator & then set some eggs a cpl nights later. I got all giddy when I realized they would be due on my birthday. Makes them even more special since this is my first hatch ever.

I candled my eggs, several of them now have veins visible. I'm getting excited about it. Though i don't need a hatcher ready yet I'm tempted to get it all set up and work on it for the next 2 weeks to make sure i get the humidity and temperature right.

I also just talked to a lady who has a brooder pen (indoor or outdoor) for older chicks that she will give me along with feeders & waterers if I buy all 42 of her hens, 2 roos, & 500+ egg cartons for $175. VERY tempting deal!!!
