The neverending coop project. *Update - IT'S DONE!!!!!!*

Wow, another broody one? They have the broody fever.

Yesterday I sold two of the lighter blue Wyandotte hens (not the broody.) If you change your mind about wanting the two dark hens let me know (I don't mind keeping them though if you still want them.) I have been getting quite a few calls lately for laying hens. I think it is because summer vacation is over and people are planning on being home now

I'd be happy to have them, but as you can see, I'm not ready yet. So if you have someone that can take them right away and you feel you need them gone, I understand.

Just giving you an out in case you change your mind. I love my chickens and want the best homes possible so I don't mind waiting.

I have been able to sell 5 hens so my house won't be crowded now until the next wave of babies are big enough to be mixed with the big girls. My chicken house was a tree house/ play house that has been converted to the main upper house for full grown chickens and the lower house and yard for the juvenals. next year I hope to build (with the help of my husband) a barn type chicken house. I'm inspired by you building yours. My husband worked in Carpentry for twelve years and is a perfectionist, so he wouldn't be able to NOT help me . .hehe!

Here is my chicken house and yards before I added height to the fence to keep Bob Cats out!

Beware of building with husbands that are perfectionists. I can't tell you how many times I have been told "It's not right", "This is why you take your time before you start building", "If you would have done ______, you wouldn't be having this problem", etc.

Nice setup for your chickens! I plan to convert my kids playhouse to a coop when they are older and don't use it anymore.

My husband doesn't tell me how to do it (we work together on our complete house re-model) he just does it, and convinces me to do it HIS way and then later I have to ask him to do something more because it didn't work out well for the chickens, since he doesn't have an interest in chickens and doesn't understand what works the best for them!!

Oh, well. He is a darn good sport about it!!

My husband was nice enough to spray the coop for me. I helped by moving ladders and cleaning up. So now the painting is done! We'll be doing the roof this weekend.

Amen, sister! My husband is a residential framing carpenter who is super nit picky, so our construction process took twice as long and cost 4 times as much because he did everything by the book, and because he didn't want to use recycled materials. (I probably have the only chicken house in Angelina County with studs on 18" centers!)

But I can't complain because he did most of the backbreaking work. (Of course, residential construction is very slow right now, so he had plenty of time on his hands. Anyone need a husband for hire??

) Plus I'm totally thrilled with the outcome.

New2chooks, your coop is coming along great!! Can't wait for the finished product!!

I drew a quick picture on roofing tin and my husband cut it out and installed it to fill the space above the gate so the Bob Cat that keeps getting my chickens won't get through! So far the Bob Cat hasn't been able to get back in
