The new A-Frame Coop, generation 2.0! **The NEW PICS are Here!! **

Every time I return to your thread, I am inspired and in awe. You have quite the design and construction team! We're building a coop from a swing set A-frame, as I mentioned a couple weeks back, but ours is much smaller scale. Keep posting your updates. I am impressed!!

I love that you used the old swing set A-frame! This is coming out really great - will continue to watch your progress - great idea!

My sincerest apologies! The A Frame 2.0 project had been interrupted by life in general, but I now am ready to secure the coop itself and hopefully the run will follow very soon. My labor force was unable to complete the last 15-20% of the project and I am very much the "gentleman's contractor" in that I must hire all the labor for repairs or additions. But I am buckling down and doing my very best to complete the project by Thanksgiving. Pictures will follow as early as possible, hopefully this evening!

what a great coop and great way to use a old swingset! i should of done this with my old one years ago....burned the thing in peices. Your family did a great job. nice sky light too!!!!

Tomorrow pics will be added. Too pooped tonight cause we just put the chickens in their new diggs!! Can I get a WOOT WOOT?!

Once again, sorry for the procrastination! I have new coop pics that show the functioning coop inside and out. Without further delay...

Here is the back of the structure where the doors for the nest boxes are located. I have placed hinges and sliding bolts for security.

The sliding bolts are each side of both doors.

Here are the big endcap doors, which are for access to clean, repair, feed/water the inside and the occupants.

The doors are secured by dowels 12" long slid into eyebolts to press the bottom inward and prevent opening. Plus the doors are HEAVY!!

This is the front of the structure and will let the birds come out and down the ladder to an enclosed run, yet to be secured

Now, the inside!! I have a wire floor of hardware cloth beneath the roosts, 3 nest boxes on each side (my cousin put 12 in for some reason!).

These pics were taken at dawn the following morning, and the flock is quietly exploring the new, larger space. Three are on the roost already!

We placed the food and water in the lower boxes until better arrangements could be made, but I am liking the way we did it. Birds can't perch on it so it doesn't get pooped on, and that means fresher food and water for longer periods.

All in all, a great weight off of my shoulders and the flock will be happier and healthier. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to show you...

The old coop! It is too low to the ground to allow for cleaning and feeding/watering comfortably by the tender (ie, ME!). We can and will salvage it to maybe house a breeding trio, possibly OEG's.

There is the updates, hope they were worth the wait. Please let me know what ya think, BYC!
