The NEW Crazy 24hr AUCTION thread

Don't know what happened to your pic I used.... Well, I was asking about the hen in the 2nd pic, which I would guess is the one you said is the splash that came from a blue hen and a WC blue polish. I LOVE that look!!! Are you continuing on with that project?
No, I sold the roo. I had kept 3 pullets, 2 black and 1 splash. I sold the rest. Something got the smaller black pullet right out of the pen with no sign at all. I suppose we have a large snake hiding out somewhere. Anything else would have left a track of feathers. That splash won fist place in BV in a show when she was 3 months old. I plan to put Elvis and Pricilla in a show providing they aren't Broody, breeding or molting at the time. It seems thats when they want to look their worst is when there is a show. I haven't named that splash pullet or her sister the black pullet. I hatched out 4 of the splash's eggs and it seems that 3 of them are going to be splash and it's looking like 2 will be frizzled. Still a little early to tell though.

Kim - yours are cooking along in one of my 'bators. :) I don't think I'm going to get any of the SPPRs to hatch - I honestly couldn't see well enough inside of them to confidently pull them out, but I think they might not hatch. I'll definitely try to get a couple more of those from you the next time I see you have some! My kiddos were excited about those because they kept calling them SUPER eggs. ;) Your eggs traveled very well with plenty of extras, and as of right now, I'm anticipating hatching:

+ or - 1 SPPR
Maybe a couple of BCMs (again too dark for this novice)
+ or - 2 Welsummer
and a few Blue and Lavender Ameraucanas - I'm super excited about those!!!

Now if you'll just come to my house and hold my hand Saturday through Tuesday, I think we'll be ok!
I'm not a drinker, but I think in the case of a group hand holding hatch, that booze should be involved.

At the very least chocolate....brownies, fudge.... ooooooooooooh I know! Chocolate covered peeps!

Arielle, if I KNEW we would be able to roast one of these guys, I would definitely jump on this... We are flock newbies and while I'm not quite at the point where I think we could butcher a chicken, I sure do loooooove turkey!

Quote: WHen I realized that finding a place to butcher was near impossible, then found one close by at $5 per chicken or $10 turkey, well I decided I needed to learn a new skill toward self-suffiecency. I say a prayer at the "time" -- thanking each for the food going onto my plate and feeding my family.

I can do 1 turkey in the time of 2 chickens. Guess which gives more meat for the effort?? Besides turkey tastes different, and I like variety.

I want to learn to process chickens and turkeys but for some reason I go all squeamish even doing a mercy killing! I csn gut and clean fish and do eggtopsies without batting an eye but can't do it on birdies! *facepalm*

I have found that a killing cone makes all of the difference. I even take them and swaddle them in a kids 3T t-shirt and duct tape to stop them from struggling, then I put them in the killing cone and sever their Jugular and let them bleed out, then I sever the cervical vertebrae.
