You should consider registering to ship to Virginia. Virginia only requires you to be NPIP, complete a Virginia form that is downloadable, and then get your State NPIP Representative to confirm your NPIP status and mail the form back to the Virginia State Vet. Very simple, a little hassle, but hardly difficult to accomplish. Then you will be registered to export to Virginia and have expanded your market with very little real investment (just your time and some postage).
So sorry to say that I have been corresponding with a representative from VA's Dept of Agriculture and it isn't quite so easy for all states. Those of us who are LA NPIP cannot be certified to ship to Virginia UNLESS we pay to be independently monitored for AI. Louisiana does not test for AI. I have about 100 birds and would have to pay LSU come out 4 times per year to test in order to be certified. The cost would be nearly $500 per quarter for me. That is quite a tremendous expense for a small breeder. I wish all the states would implement comparable regulations for testing.
