The New Garage Coop is Done! Lots of Pictures!!

Your chicks must be happy with their new city life! Looks like my old neighborhood, little to no yard. You were very creative with the space. We have since moved. The new place has a 70 year old, 6 stall pole barn. We converted one of the stalls to the chicken room. Put in a pop door and put up a run on the outside. I have some suggestions. Add more ventalation to the inside room. And add an adult size door to the outside run. I don't think you could fit through the pop hole if you needed to get to your chickens. Think about what to put in the bottom of the run ei: sand. It won't take them long to tear up the grass and with any amount of rain the run will turn to a mud pit like mine did.

More ventilation is going in soon - we have a bathroom fan that we'll install before winter. For now the open window will be enough.

It's funny that you can't notice the human sized door in the run. It's there, on the side toward the neighbor's house. It's a bit disguised, which is good, since I don't want passersby to think they can easily get to my chickens.

I'm planning to put straw down on the run. Does anyone recommend sand instead? Why?

Will you be driving a car in and out of that garage? If so, be really careful about carbon monoxide poisoning. Chickens, like all birds, have very efficient respiratory systems and are highly sensitive to air quality. I didn't see where you put your coop vents, so I'd assume you've got them going to the outside, right?
