Yeah, I was wondering about the car's fumes, too. Anyways, love the coop. Do you ever intend to let them out of the run for some more free ranging? I imagine that run is going to get a little muddy and smelly when the weather sets in. I have mine is a small coop about 18-20 hours a day then throw the door open for some r & r later in the afternoon. It minimizes the amount of damage they can do to my yard and yet they get some exercise and fresh bugs.
Lol - We have been talking about the possibility of him starting a side business building custom coops. He's concerned that he materials and labor would end up being more than people want to pay for a chicken coop. I paid around $700-$800 for all the materials, and if he was charging he would have charged something like $50/hour..... that would make the retail somewhere around $2,000, or more if people wanted fancier materials and designs. Does anyone think people would pay that much for a chicken coop? I think they would, but he is going to take some convincing.
I hadn't thought about the fumes in the garage. I can fit a car in there, but so far I haven't They have an outside window that gives them some fresh air, and we're going to install a bathroom fan for the winter.... still, I will be careful not to run a car in there for any amount of time.
Yes, we've been letting them out to free range in the afternoons for a bit. They love it so!
It's just great to see all the people walking by checking out the chickens. We live on a street that is a pedestrian access from the neighborhood to a little mini mall with a Walgreens and other popular shops, so we get a lot of passersby. People love them!
Well, we actually moved out of that house a year and a half ago, but we really liked it up until then, and the new owner still uses it.
The only complaint that we had is that the chickens' feed enticed mice into our garage, and we had a pretty bad infestation... other than that it was great!
