"hey a slow canter is just as fast if not slower than a fast trot.... and far less bouncy. I find thats its esier to stay on at a canter even if they spook, than if your bouncing in the saddle at a trot... just speaking from experience... heck my worst falls are from a walk lol. Plus I beleive in God and he has literally had his angels put me back on the horse when I should have died.

I was raised with horses, and I do understand, but I have to disagree. Some trots are very fast, but not on my arabian. Slower to med trot speed, blistering canter. Never an all out gallep out of her though, ever. If she shied at such high speeds, I was toast.

I think the time my girth broke (well, my fault really) and I was drug 1/2 mi, she ran pretty fast, but I was too busy trying to avoid those hooves! Kept my guardian angel busy that trip for sure.
 
You had a standard arab

I've been fortunate enough that my baby was a calm one, people used to swear he wasn't realy an arab. My others are speedies.. I won't even trot them on the trail.
