This is from my old Betty Crocker cookbook (I've modified the recipe a bit so it's not as sweet as the original recipe) and I use the frozen sweet cherries you can find in a big bag at most grocery stores. Walmart has the best price on frozen cherries that I've been able to find around here.

For a 9" pie
Put 5-6 cups thawed cherries in a large bowl, add 1 cup sugar, 1/3 cup flour, pinch of salt, 1/4 teaspoon almond extract. Mix well and put in the bottom crust of your pie pan. Put the top crust on, make slits for steam to escape. I like to sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on the top crust but that's just me. Bake at 425* for about 45-50 minutes or until crust is browned.
