The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

You and I are WAY too far north for y'all!!! ;)
Nobody is too far north for y'all! Y'all feel free to "culture appropriate " my colliquialisms. You can call me lady too, or ma'am, and even hold the door.
I'm never offended by someone being polite. It's hard to believe that we have gotten to the point where people get angry over things like this.

Big news for us here...

We're moving again! (shocking I know, because we never move :gig )

DH was offered a much better job at a golf course in Kentucky so we're knee deep into packing up stuff here in FL, working with a realtor to buy a house up there in KY, etc.

My son is flying in Monday to help with everything. While DH is busy working here in FL, my son & I will be driving up to Kentucky to make a final decision on which house we want to put an offer on.

Hopefully, this all goes much easier and faster than last year's move from Wyoming to Florida. And I'm SUPER hopeful this is the last move (DH has promised).

I love Kentucky. I hope you will too!

I didn't post because I'm not a lady (or female by any name)

Discussion: Recent NPR story about a guy who didn't get a job as a school district supervisor because he said "Thank you ladies" after the interview which the women (some have PhDs, as does he) found insulting/demeaning.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the word "lady" being insulting or considered degrading. I would consider it a generic, possibly somewhat formal, term and not demeaning. Can anyone enlighten me?

Many years ago I was walking one direction down the hall at work and a group of women I knew were approaching. I said "good morning ladies" as we passed and got the feeling I had said something wrong. No time to address them each by name, "Hello women" just sounds wrong. So does "Hi guys" since they were all female. "Hello people"? Nah. I am lost! Obviously this has stuck with me since it was probably 40 years ago!

I guess maybe it is just best to not say anything beyond "Hi" or "Thank you", especially now with the advent of "they/them" in addition to the he/him, she/her we old people grew up with.

How many here need to be apprised of that reference? ;)

I did but I didn't say anything, it would be rude to point out an honest error ;)
Never mind

I haven’t even gotten to visit you in Florida yet. I hope you will love it there.

Kentucky is closer to you DMC, you can come see me there!
I see it’s quite a bit closer. :D
It is our 30th wedding anniversary on September 11th. I told my husband I want to go somewhere this year. I haven’t decided yet where I want to go. I do want to see an ocean. I would like to go to Maine in the fall but we have harvest. I am not ruling it out. I wouldn’t mind going to Texas or Virginia either. I want to go when it’s not hot even though I have the summer off. I think we are going to go with my best friend and her husband. She is well traveled and we have never been anywhere. We’ll see what happens.
