The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Good morning all. I’m on my first cup of coffee this morning. A skunk got into Hattie’s food in the garage last night and she was not ok with that and all he!! broke loose. Of course I opened all my windows in the house yesterday. It’s hard to sleep when you can’t get the smell out of your nose. The offending creature might still be in the garage. :th

I looked, if you know where the odor is coming from you can get cleaners. Also peroxide, baking soda, bleach and other household stuff is supposed to help.
Thanks IM! It’s in the corner by the dog food. She got sprayed too. You’d think she would learn to leave them alone.

I hope not!
When I worked at the state mental health facility, we often had to make walking rounds from building to building. The skunks were prolific. One of my coworkers got sprayed and it made her so sick. Her husband had to come pick her up and drive her home in the bed of his truck. She stripped down and wore a blanket home. They smell bad from afar, but they are sickening up close.

My house in KS was out in the country and one year we had more than the usual skunk population. One mama skunk gave birth to babies under our concrete slab we had by the front door but lost them all when we got a heavy rain.

That was the same year my closest neighbor hired a guy to trap them around his place, he was paying the trapper a price per captured skunk. The trapper got up to about 49 of them that summer. (I told my neighbor that was probably one trained skunk the trapper had trained and he was just catching that one over and over. )

The farmer my son works for has trapped and released them. :sick

I've used apple cider vinegar to get skunk smell off my dogs before. It worked fairly good. And I've boiled it on the stove to help get the smell out of the house. It doesn't work quite as good as the stuff I get from my vet, but it definitely helped. White vinegar worked too, but acv smells better. :)
