The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

My biggest plan this weekend involves buying a new water boiler. We use one multiple times a day for making coffee and tea and our old one has died.
Goodest morning to you, Debby! Was your water boiler mission a success?!? We use ours all the time. I think ours is a Hamilton Beach brand (not sponsored) and it's been going a pretty good while.

I hope you have a wonderful Monday, with some hot water hopefully, haha!

I love the baby! What a great color.
Yes, thanks, Janie! The cool thing about the color of the lamb is that they came out gray. Most of my gray sheep come out black and turn gray. You can see the mom's coloring is gray, but she started off black. She has some white teardrop markings, so I knew she was going to turn gray.

Here's the new boy. He's 1/2 Guernsey, 1/2 Nubian. I do have a confession, though, hehe, I actually have another new, new boy I picked up yesterday. One of the ladies we shear for had another buckling and knew I was looking for one, and I couldn't say no 😬. But the 2 stinky boys will be able to hang out together. It's not picturesque out right now (gloomy) but I'll see if I can catch up to all of them for a pic. He's full Nubian like the buckling we lost.

Good morning Jen, what a handsome dude! Looking forward to seeing your new, new boy :)

P.S. The new water boiler mission was a success! Hot water galore. now

Bah bah to anyone who doesn't love black sheep, they are the most beautiful!

The black and gray are definitely my favorite. True black (that doesn't sun fade) is hard to find. They usually look brown, but if their tongue is black, they are black.

There is a link that I've heard between copper and keeping nice dark black fleeces, but I haven't experimented with it much since sheep can't have too much copper, but they do need some. I've also heard it helps prevent Barber Pole worm, so I need to do more research. There's only a specific kind of copper you want to give sheep.

I have to bolus the goats with it since they need it but the sheep can't have too much. They are all turds, though, and chew them up or spit them out. (I haven't found a balling gun I want to buy yet.) It's not my favorite chore. 😂
