The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I was working today, but ....DH had one pair of Eclipse Glasses and brought them to my job - we shared them and saw it....we had only 95% eclipse, so not really dark here but the building night outdoor lights all came on ...DH didn't miss it, he used welding glasses to view most of it. Only my 2 elder hens seemed to know something strange was going on and just stood around and stared...the young ones just played and never noticed :)

It is still amazing to witness these things.

Good morning!

The eclipse was pretty cool, it was slow here during that time so we saw it. Where we are we got about 99% of it, the light looked so strange. The antelope and cats acted kind of weird, not sure what the chickens thought.

Yesterday was a 15-hour long one, off to a slow start this morning. Better head over to the BYC café and pick up another cup of coffee.

Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!

You guys need to check out the eclipse photos @R2elk got yesterday! Very cool! He's about 2 hours north of me and had a better view (and a much better camera):

Those were awesome pics...I tried to capture the weird light that was hitting by the chicken coop, it was such an eerie feeling but neat at the same time. One of my new girls squatted today so hoping to see a white egg soon. It is so nice out today, wish I could play hookie but I have one more clean yet. Have a good day all!

Here's to a laser chasing day. It was super busy here and I haven't been able to get on. I hope everyone had a great day. Debby, this made me think of your fur babies.

Our deaf cat goes nuts for a lazer light. Hubby bought a lazer leveller thingie which is basically a big, red, lazer X so you can get your right angles right. Best cat toy EVER!

Our Squeak looks funny today with baby fluff out the sides of her head. I think she might be a she, not a he as I first suspected, having looked back on photos of Rosie and Pie at the same age, but time will tell. She's been trying out millet this afternoon, just rolling it round in her beak. She's not strong enough to crack it yet but that's a good start.

I had a Button quail hatch yesterday morning and our disabled girl, Waddles, adopted it just fine. It was the last to hatch so she has 4 chicks which really is enough for her. I don't know what colour it's going to be and I can't find a similar photo anywhere on the net. In Australia and New Zealand we have a colour that's called Caramel and the breeder I got our original pair off said perhaps it's going to turn out to be Caramel, like it's grandmother. It's super cute and pretty docile - it was quite fascinated with the reflections in my rings as I held it.

Here's our Caramel girl, Matilda:

And here's Waddles with her silver and one of her cinnamon babies (they were getting a food lesson as Waddles had found a tasty tidbit):

Morning!

Nicky, a laser is one of my cats favorite toys! Opie doesn't even care if it's turned on, he still plays with it when it's off.

J, that little quail is cute and so tiny. Glad Waddles took all 4 babies under her wing.

Only 52 more days until the course closes for the season (Oct. 15)! YAY! Can't wait for winter :D

J, your birds are all so precious. Squeak is getting so grown up and your button quail is an inspiration.

Debby, both my younger girls are laser fanatics. They'll jump up half the wall to get to it, a well as making twirling sounds and follow after it when I put the dot along the ceiling. Too hilarious, it makes them good spider spotters. In fact, they can be in another room and hear the soft click of the laser light button being pressed and come running like maniacs. So naturally I learned to mimick that sound with my mouth and do it randomly at oodles moments. Nothing like watching them look for the red dot.

52 days  they'll be done in a blink. I still can't believe August is almost over. Where did it go? Bring on the cooler weather. :yesss:
