More cookies to bake today. By the time I get done with all the baking, I'm not going to want a cookie within miles!

If that storm hits you are going to need a pretty big catapult to get the cookies that far!

No electricity. They're learning to cook like we did in the 18th century.
:( Not good. People's houses aren't set up for cooking with wood indoors. Nor do they likely have cooking pots meant to cook over a wood fire. The only VERY SMALL glimmer is at least they don't have "winter weather" to contend with so they can cook outdoors. But in a big city, that won't be easy either and where are they going to get the wood?

I overate at dinner (son took me to Texas Roadhouse) and didn't even take home leftovers :sick. And yet about an hour later managed to eat a pint of Baskin -Robbins ice cream.
The ice cream moved the food down?
Did you feel better after eating it?

Also ate too much mac and cheese before and ice cream before lol

Also i was pretty stressed but now I'm watching tv with the cat.

Speaking of which, all your cats are beautiful!

I've thought about a second cat but hate litter boxes. But i thought it might make Luna more confident
I made instant pot beef stroganoff last night my youngest DD made home made noodles.

I baked 4 cookies (I keep them frozen and bake them as wanted) and ate two of them with ice cream. Yesterday was a long day.

Thankfully, they live in the country (plenty of wood) and have a dutch oven and some cast iron.

Morning all!

@bruceha2000 your (or your DD's) yellow boy is so handsome! I love yellow cats :love We have 3 here at home (Opie, Bam Bam & Pip) and DH has 3 at the golf course he takes care of. There's no lacking for fur around here either, lol.

@Teila scrambled eggs are good food! Save yourself 1st! :p

@rjohns39 what a nice holiday treat to the folks in PR! Those flat rate boxes from the P.O. are great, they have saved me a lot in shipping over the years.

@DigMyChicks hope your 2 do well at the vet's next week.

Time for another cup of coffee, later!

Orange cats just seem friendlier to me! Especially orange males.

We used to have an orange male and he was the best cat. Loved everybody and wanted to be patted all the time. He would just lay there and be patted forever. Him and the dog (old dog, yellow lab) got along.

Now we have Luna. She's great but for a while she would always run away from everyone (maybe just energy though?), only wanted to be pet on her terms, would bite sometimes, only liked me, etc. But then we got her spayed (and finally got shots) at almost 3 and she calmed down and stopped biting. My dad also used to play rough with her though and encourage it. ANYWAY. Now she has really calmed down and wants to he petted or held a lot! That was the other thing, she NEVER wanted to be held. Now she doesn't mind it but only when she wants to or for short times.

And my dad and I are still her favorites but she's likes everybody. No one likes her though :(

She also greets me when I come home

But she's definitely less out going than Mittens.

She's 6, turning 7 in August.

I've given up on all cat vaccines except the legally required rabies which must be done at the vet. Our cats NEVER go outside, there is no way any outside cat can get nose to nose with them through a screen (unless it brings a trampoline) and the only cat that ever comes around lives across the road. He doesn't come up to the house but goes around it and the barn. The only place they could get one of the nasty diseases is AT the vet because that is the only place they ever go.

Then there is heartworm. The only way an animal in Vermont is going to get heartworm is if it gets bit by a mosquito in warmer climates.

Luna used to sneak out a lot. She's better now but we sometimes let her out too. Mostly in the spring. She likes being inside in winter but come spring she tries everything to get out ha

It's almost 'spring like' here in NJ. Good morning, chatfolk.

Same

That sounds delicious!

I'm going to try to eat healthier today. My heart might appreciate it hah

Last night I had mac & cheese but I made a double batch (2 boxes) so instead of half stick of butter and quarter cup milk it had a whole stick and a half cup. And i ate a lot of it. Plus i had some ice cream.

And also friday i go cheese puffs, bugles, and these star wars cheddar pop chip things, so I've been eating those but rationing them the last few days. Oh and cherry licorice.

Anyway, I am sure the cheese puffs and mac and cheese went straight to my arteries

Mac and cheese from boxes is one of the highest foods with plastic in it. Plastic is very bad for us.

I think we talked about white sauce here. White sauce is the base for home made mac and cheese. You add a cup or two of cheddar cheese to it after it thickens. You can get fancy and add Worcestershire sauce and dry mustard to the sauce. My DD likes to add a bit of cayenne pepper.

Very easy to make and it will have a lot less plastic in it. Cheese has it in general but you can minimize by using organic

I think you gave me a recipe for mac and cheese but I'm not sure we ever specifically talked sauce. Maybe it was in the recipe? How do you make the white sauce?

And mac and cheese has plastic in it!?!?! Okay that disgusts me.....

What about microwave mac? I assume it's way worse?

It is very high in anything that uses the cheese powder:

Basic White Sauce Recipe

For years, Lois Gelzer of Standish, Maine has used this smooth sauce to make many dishes, including the two shared here. "The recipe can easily be doubled or tripled," she says.

TOTAL TIME: Prep/Total Time: 10 min.YIELD:8 servings

Ingredients

2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
Dash white pepper

1 cup 2% milk

Directions

1. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour, salt and pepper until smooth. Gradually whisk in the milk. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Use immediately or refrigerate. Yield: 1 cup.

Add a cup or so of good cheddar cheese to the white sauce after it thickens. Play around with other spices to taste.

You can double the sauce if you want more. Pour over cooked pasta--we like small shells
