Yes you can get chicken pox from someone with shingles but you have to be in contact with the weeping pus stuff, just stay clear.


I will attest to this fact. Worst pain in my life including kidneys stones that landed me in the ER.


They don't usually give it to people under 60. Of course I had shingles when I was < 55.


False, see above. You can't get SHINGLES from someone with shingles. But yes keeping the oozing areas covered. And see a doctor, they gave me gabapentin.

Curious, I just got mine a few weeks ago. I sure hope it is the new one. They wouldn't still be using the old one, right? RIGHT?!?!?!?

Oh never mind, you posted a second before I did. Does that mean I should go in for ANOTHER shingles vaccine next year or something?

That is what the CDC says but since you get 51% protection for about three years you may be able to wait that long. Check with your Dr. though.

That is the reason that the new shot is recommended. It works better the older you get. You will likely need a booster but by the time you are 80, it is up to 95% or so effective. The old one only gave 20% protection to 80 year olds.

DH says he is feeling a bit better today, thank goodness.

@Teila glad you were able to get a bit of a break from the heat even if the storm did cause some 'poop pants' moments, lol. Did you get your air cooler thing installed?
