I've been thinking of Blooie this morning. There's a note on my desk calendar that she & Ken are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary (Feb. 29th is the actual date).

Wherever she is/whatever she is doing today, I hope she's well and happy. So just in case, @Blooie best wishes on your anniversary and I wish you both many more!

One of the worst messes was when a pyrex baking pan Cracked into pieces in a 400 degree oven with a chicken in it! Smoke, juice and glass all over the oven...Sorry about the roaster!

Pans do not cost that much which makes me wonder why I do not replace old ones sooner

Thanks for such a detailed and interesting reply! So if you were to buy quail from a hatchery what are you buying? Also this article I found said that the jumbo brown coturnix are the best. It said they are friendlier plus bigger so produce more meat.

My dad makes me lock the cat in the basement every night because otherwise she comes up and jumps on him and sticks her butt in his face at like 4 in the morning! Lol

Actually, it was my idea because my mom wants to lock the cat down there all the time (started when my brother came home one time cause he's allergic but now she just wants to do it all the time even when he's not home....) so I said we should let her up during the day and lock her down there at night. It seems to work.

Although lately even during the day, her being downstairs is fine because my dad works down there now so both the animals hang out with him all day lol the dog is asleep on the couch or outside and the cat is on his desk or eating or sometimes upstairs if she has the choice lol

Slightly random now but the main problem I see with the IncuView versus the HovaBator Genesis is that the IncuView doesn't appear to come with quail rails? Which if I am going to be hatching a lot of quail might be an issue... unless maybe the included turner is all in one or other rails would fit? I'd have to ask. But it does have a lot of other nice features and I think I might prefer plastic... so idk. Maybe I will end up hatching lots of chickens instead and fueling my chicken addiction.

I have not looked at either of those yet but good ideas! Yes the minimum order is offputting cause if you have to order 50 or 100 at $2 or $3+ a chick that's very quickly over $100 or $200!

I was mostly just doing research and the purely poultry page especially confused me just because they have sooo many kinds! And I got thrown off by the pharaoh thing!

The Coturnix have different strains that were developed, like for example the Texas A&M are mostly white i think and developed as meat birds. Each variety has different qualities. It really won't make a huge difference on a small scale flock which ones you choose. Get some you like the looks of. Pharaoh is just another name for coturnix.
The eggs will fit in the incubator but not the turners unless you get quail rails. I just am getting the flats of paper product to put my eggs in, as i do not have a turner.
