The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Anyone else have a problem where you quote messages but then you go away for a while and BYC unquotes them!? Very annoying! Now i have to go back through the thread and find them!
My main problem here is the like button not working properly. Sometimes i have to like a post x3 before it works!

I've had quotes that I've already used/already quoted/replied to pop up in the 'insert quote' box and they'll keep popping up there for awhile every time I quote a different post. Weird.

The kids had some spectators when they went swimming today. It was pretty cold but they were determined to get their swim (they voluntarily got out after awhile so that tells you how cool the water was)! The steers were in the paddock by the pool and they were fascinated with the kids and watched as they yelled and splashed.

And if anyone can tell me what this tree is I'd love to know. It's growing by the pool and has beautiful flowers.

I have more quail chicks too but the three that hatched in the incubator I've managed to give to the female who has just hatched out 4 herself. Makes my life easier! As always, excuse the poop. Quail don't just poop - they throw themselves into reverse and then they poop so it ends up all over the walls! One baby has a blue spot on top of its head. I'm 99% sure I got the right one. It's unrelated to my other babies, but of course they also hatched out one the same colour which is related to mine! I'd tried liquid food colouring but that quickly disappeared, so I had to pull out the gel stuff. There's a second female in with this pair and she's being extremely good with the little ones as well, now that she's over her initial running away every time they make a beeline for her.

When I raised dogs - I would use a little spot of colored nail polish(they sold for grooming shops) and put a different color on each newborn pup. Then I'd list the colors (used instead of names) with gender and weights and any notes about them. It usually stayed on their paw long enough till the pups very mobile and easy to tell apart. Never seemed to bother them or their mamas.

Got Gator a new harness. A little paranoid it's too big though as everyone says the sizing is very accurate and true to size but I guess we will see when it gets here! He was on the upper end of one harness so I didn't want it to be too small! I guess if it proves to be too big though or he loses weight we can always return it.

It is the Julius-K9 IDC Powerharness.

There is a sizing chart on the bottom of the IDC website.

I ordered from Amazon.

Size 4, blue color.

Gator is a Black Lab/Great Pyrenees mix which I think most of you know? And us 6 so not likely to do more growing.

I just checked his girth and he's like 45 or 46", not really sure. So probably could have fit a 3 but didn't want it to be small.

BUT.

He is also fat atm and was 147 pounds when he went to the vet's on Friday.

He really should be at least 10-17 pounds lighter, around 130. So I think a 3 might be better. But I was paranoid it would be too small. Weight wise size 3 makes more since but girth wise size 4 does si we'll see.

I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to return or just buy a second smaller one when he loses weight.

But ANYWAY.

It seems likw a really great, well made harness so I'm excited.

He doesn't go on walks anymore cause he can be reactive to some dogs and when we do go we usually go at night because of that so having a well made, strong harness and a highly reflective one is important.

I don't like using the choke collar but I've been scared to use anything else.

Even that ComfortFlex Sport Harness we have I've been scared to use that. That one fits the SUPER REFLECTIVE bill, especially when I combine it with his martingale of the same brand, but I've been worried the ring or handle would snap off. I also don't know where it is atm cause my mom put it somewhere. Been meaning to ask where but keep forgetting. I think we'll still use it though but look at the handle and ring attachment.

Also I think he's a little fat for it atm judging by the sizing chart.

He needs to lose weight.

Speaking of which, ideas?

The other one I've considered is the Alpine Outfitters Urban Trail harness but I think thats that's probably more designed for medium size dogs even if they do do custom sizing.

This one seems well made. It's German made. And it looks nice and isn't ugly. So I'm excited.

The patches are also replaceable! They're just velcro so where it says Julius-K9 I can replace them. I probably won't because I have no need to but you can order custom ones direct from the manufacturer or they have premade ones too. Or of course third party ones on Amazon. So you could get one that says your dog's name on it or something cute like diva or free kisses or mud hound or rescue or anything really or something more serious like police, therapy dog, service dog, in training, do not pet, ask before petting, etc. Anything you want or could think of. Lots of people use them as service dog vests because they are so well made and the patches are easily removable and replaceable.

You could even have service dog in training and take off the in training when they're older.

Anyway, sorry for going.on about it, i promise I'm not a sales person LOL

I've just heard about these harnesses for forever from dog people and read tons of reviews and I'm super excited to finally get one. :)

That is weird!

Mine I'll hit quote on posts but not insert them yet and i come back a while later and they're not quoted anymore

Good idea! Seems easier than using ribbons

That's a cute idea that you can change the patches.
