I hope I did not come across as harsh but it is frustrating that I see all the prework happening and end to end testing and go / no go's but nothing following the release.
As you mentioned, you can not fully know what will crop up until it is in Production so it makes sense to me to test just as much after as before; not just say "Yep, good to go", throw the switch and walk away.
It must be even more frustrating for the users because they do not see all of the above and basically have learnt to dread release day as much as I do.
I work in IT at the University and have a whole other set of issues that include Office politics and dealing with Academics. The job would be much nicer If I did not have to deal with people and the strange hierarchy of systems here. I am in a Department and have no control over Stuff that happens at Central IT....Quite a lot goes wrong there
