The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Morning all :frow
Debby sounds like you're in for a fun day... I'll be retrofitting my chicken tractors with armor today so I can get the babies out of the brooder. I'm putting 1/2" hardware cloth around the sides and on the door 2x4 welded wire screwed down with 1/2" hardware wire over the top. Then putting the hot wires back around the base.

trying a new type of chicken, breda's, bought four chicks from a friend who's starting to raise and sell, three splash and one blue, tried to pick three hens and one cockerel, well, very hard to tell due to they don't have much of a comb, but anyway this morning the larger one that i thought was a cockerel started crowing or at least trying, you know how the rooster crows? well this fella has the last part of the crow, then three ha ha ha's, so weird and funny, think the smallest one is a cockerel also, so two pair:lol:
They sound very funny when they start to crow!

do you raise the breda's? i know everything else i've raised before we get a giggle out of but these take the cake as funny, never had one "say" ha ha ha at the end
I don't think it is breed specific. I have had different breeds have cockerels that sound like that when they start. The early ones sound the funniest! I had one trying to crow at a week old. Happy chook had one try a crow on the first day!

Yours will be crowing normally in a couple of weeks

The Elks are coming! The Elks are coming!

Not the animals, the people :D Big tournament today with about 60 members of the Elks coming (we get them every other year). I'm going to be doing my cooking outside on the big behemoth cast iron grill today...anyone want a hot dog or hamburger?
They are going to pay, right? ;)

I'm trying to understand how a tornado damages only the same compass side of every house. It is spinning and throwing stuff off in all directions isn't it? Wouldn't it throw stuff at the south side of the neighbor's house and damage it?

Yep, and that's why I'm leaning more toward straight line winds now, Bruce. While there is damage all around the houses, there's such a distinct major damage path through town that it just makes sense, especially with north facing sides taking the brunt of it. We'll just have to wait until the NWS makes a determination, I guess.

Hope this link works - can't do anything about the ad at the beginning, though.

EDITED TO ADD: Just now found this - according to this report, which is a much better one than the previous, officials have determined that it was not a tornado. Again, apologies for the ad at the beginning. I think you can see by this how lucky Tam really was.
