The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

(Slightly graphic pics of the packaged organs at the end)

Got all this at the store but I might check the dollar store. I thought I was going to feed it tonight so bought iy but dollar store may have it cheaper. They were all like over $3 each even the teeny mackerel... also that salmon seems like a lot of salt? But did not have no salt option. Leg quarters were on sale. Dog loves those. Not as good a sale as last time though. 99 cents per pound this time, was 88 or maybe 78 last time. Got some beef hearts for him too and a beef liver for the girls. Gator doesn't like liver but likes heart lol

But I didn't only get meat for the animals. I also got strawberries and blueberries for strawberry shortcake. Already have shells and whipped cream.

Tonight was lasagna, garlic bread, and salad for dinner. None homemade though, Stouffer's lasagna and Pepperidge Farm Texas Toast garlic bread but still tasty. The lettuce was from my garden though, blackseeded simpson and another kind. And a bag of bought spinach.

She is something special, Kelsey! She fussed for a few seconds, but with her thick diaper she was more surprised than hurt. She’d have gotten right back up and tried again if they hadn’t had everything loaded in their van and been ready to leave anyway.

She sure seems like it! And I bet she would have! And probably would have tried a million more times too until she got it!

Today's tournament for the high school kids went very well, good attendance, all had fun, they ate every bit of buffet I prepared and they want to repeat this next year!

Gotta tell you, the one thing that surprised me most today? When they were done eating, every single person, young & old, picked the dirty cups and paper plates off the tables and threw them in the trash. Why surprising? Because that has never happened before at one of these luncheons, there's always some mess to clean up. You just can't beat small farm town people! :D

Random question for all you guys: how old is too old to breed chickens? Or is there no age limit? I wouldn't because we have no rooster and likely wouldn't get one for many reasons (I'll list them in a second) but I was just wondering more for curiosity's sake. My current hens are over 2 1/2, will be 3 at the end of October. Is that too old?

Probably wouldn't get a rooster because we have close neighbors in the back that probably wouldn't be happy plus we all like to sleep in or at least my brother and I and also my parents are kind of grossed out about eating fertilized eggs/worried abiut taste. So likely we won't. But I have always thought it would be cool to hatch chicks. So I guess I was just wondering if I ever did if 3 was too old. They're all mostly still laying every day but some of the eggs are a little smaller now. Some are still quite large.

As long as the hens are laying eggs. Rooster fertility goes down though so you will get a lot of clears after age 3 or 4

Thanks! If I got one, I'd probably buy a chick or rescue/buy a young one. But I probably won't, more just dreaming ha I thought maybe older hens might have less chance of survival rate or health problems or something?
