Ken arrived safely in Cheyenne (didn’t we just get back from there Saturday?) and only ran into snow from Chugwater down. He said it wasn’t bad at all, though. Tonight he goes to Burns and tomorrow night to Pine Bluffs, (he’s home-porting in Cheyenne) then Casper on Wednesday, home super late Wednesday night. He and his buddy Jim have a Scottish Rite meeting (I think that’s what it’s for) in Washington State, so they leave Thursday and will be home on Sunday, in time for us to head back to Casper for two more days before we go to Boise for 4 days for the Rocky Mountain Conference. Our 26 years in the Navy was good practice for all of this! :lau

Cap, I’m no ordinary dog owner! :gigI gotta do everything the hard way. Score today is Fiona’s coat, 10, Blooie, 0. I gave up. She looks a lot better, but she’s far from done.

And after. Still got a lot to do, but she looks a lot less shaggy than she did! You can see that I haven’t done her rear quarters, front legs, or her neck yet. Need help holding her for those. On the neck the collar gets in my way and I need that to help hold her. On her rear quarters she keeps sitting down. And when I tried to do her front legs her big head kept getting in my way while she tried to lick my hand. :he

Wow she looks way better!! Nice job!!
 
If she’s not stripped, as Kelsy said, the coat grows in softer, without the hard, waterproof correct coat type. If I’m gonna have my dream IW after 30 years of waiting, she’s gonna look like a proper IW! A soft coat collects everything - twigs, leaves, dirt, it mats, and when they get wet they stay wet. It also sheds much more. Ultimately all of that requires a lot MORE grooming than regular stripping. Once I get all of the dead stuff and her puppy coat out, then I can keep on top of it. She’s not a show dog, so I don’t need to do it as often as show handlers do, but I still want her to look as good as a giant dog with a Dufous face can look.

I took that photo while I was standing up on the deck looking down at her, so the perspective is off and that makes her actually look smaller. Had I been down at her level, you’d really marvel that she doesn’t step over that fence! :thRight now we have a 30” high baby gate in the hallway to keep her out of the back half of the trailer. We actually got it after Kendra got stuck in the toilet rowing her boat with the plunger. Fee could quite easily clear that, but it’s been up for as long as she can remember, and her breeder had one as well, so she doesn’t even think about it. Even when the door is open in it, she doesn’t go through. Let’s hope it stays that way!

You have a good point about the softer coats. Franklin gets very dirty very fast. And I bet a Golden or Samoyed would too? I want both but maybe I should reconsider and get a terrier instead :lau

And no problem, she really does and she is going to look really amazing when you're done :)
