The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Thanks, Debby. Guess I'm just feeling a little nostalgic today...in a good way. Memories have a way of slipping away if we don't nurture them a bit. This was a story that I had tucked away for my kids in one of the treasure boxes a few years ago. Thought I'd share it here.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, @sharron! Kind of puts me in mind of your new homestead..that same kind of feel.
yeah, it was a nice story blooie, i was eight when i found out no santa claus, got my first bike and watched daddy put it together christmas eve, remember how let down i felt of having to "grow up", no more presents from sc, went to bed sad and happy at the same time, got up later to go to the bathroom and by the light from the fireplace i saw one package, wrapped in paper momma had saved from the pass christmas (she always folded the christmas paper up and saved it to use again) she had saved enough money to buy me a store bought dress, i remember how i felt the next morning when i opened that last present, that became my favorite dress and i was a tom boy , didn't like wearing dresses.

Loved that story too :love

just finished making vegetable soup, altho i have to admit that i cheated a little bit, husband picked up a bag of mixed frozen vegetables and said he would like vegetable soup ( i usually make it from MY frozen veggies or fresh veggies with my canned tomatoes and beef from the freezer but as you know, down here in defuniak so none of that i have to buy it here, luckily he eats anything lol and thinks its good (his mother trained him well) but i did add my own ways to it and its way better than canned if i remember correctly.
did y'all see that now they're having to recall on turkeys?

No worries here... ALL of the turkey's in the freezer were (at minimum) raised here or even better, hatched here.:p

Excellent story Blooie! Thanks for sharing that one with us. Stories like that bring back memories for all of us.

I was doing my normal surfing on YouTube last night. Ran across Conway Twitty's "That's My Job", listening to it, I started the lacmyral glands to gushing. My dad use to tell me that all the time.
My dad was ex Army, and had a full military funeral.

I'm loving these stories too. :love

Well, we've made the wreaths. They are ridiculously sticky things to make! Melting the marshmallows was crazy - I didn't think they were ever going to be stir-able. I've had to put them on a bed of white chocolate 'snow' because even after setting in the fridge they are still so sticky they would've stuck fast to my platter and we would've been scraping them off! But they look cute and the kids enjoyed decorating.

I had to use the flash as its a dull, dark, rainy (but warm) day here. The photo still looks dark.

I'm going to have to find my raincoat soon and bite the bullet and take the dog out (she does not look enthusiastic - says she'll hold it) and go feed the birds because the rain just isn't letting up. At least the wind hasn't arrived yet. I think this is the remnants of what hit Sydney the other day - a huge hail storm with cricket ball sized hail damaging roofs and cars. We'll just be getting rain and a bit of wind thankfully.
