The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

We finally got a little bit last night...just that soft, gentle, quiet snowfall against the street lights, the kind that Christmas commercials glamorize. So beautiful! Today the sun is shining brightly and THERE’S NO WIND! Unheard of in Wyoming!

Me tooooooo!!

Here too! Kenny’s car broke down in Powell on Christmas Eve day, so he took Jenny’s beat up old van to work. He and Ken are going to go see if they can figure it out when Kenny gets off. Always something. This weekend we are taking Evan to Billings. All he wanted for was “a parakeet in a bird cage”, sung to 12 Days of Christmas. So we got him the cage, a book on taking care of them, and the accessories. He gets to choose his birds. Some things you just can’t wrap and hide!

blooie, if you can, find him english parakeets, they're much larger than the american keets and so much gentler, also try for a male, females can be a little bit harder to gentle down, unless you can find a handfed, then both are sweethearts but the males can learn to talk, when i was raising them, any of my males seemed to have the ability to talk, one male i kept for myself had a vocabulary of 75 words(he also was a little stinker, he took great joy in flying to anyone and landing on their shoulder to startle them)

I loved Mr. Rogers....my kids not so much but they had no taste!

65° and sunny down here in the dirty deep south. Moved to Opelika,Al last November when I married " the sweetest man I know" moved into his home and realized that I don't know one single soul anywhere near! Odd for me,but when I left Baton Rouge I left a huge base of dear, dear friends:some of whom had become the family I never had. No kids, both parents deceased, and 1 uncle (now also deceased) and 1 aunt in WA. state.
Never saw it to be an issue cause I worked 10 hour days and volunteered at an animal rescue. Now I don't work owing to health issues. So hubs got me the flock of chooks that were my lifelong dream! That's how I found y'all. Guess what I'm saying is "Thank you for being here!" You have become friends and have provided valued info to help me keep my little flock healthy and all of us happy!
i'm down in defuniak springs fl for the winter, welcome, you're gonna love it here, nicest people you could ever want to meet:frow

Hi there! I can’t remember if we’ve “met” but it’s nice to welcome you. I’m Blooie, resident bad pun maker and whatever-else-strikes-me-at-the-momenter.
Hey Blooie! We spoke briefly (not about underwear...) on your thread re.autism and Dr. Temple Grandin. I was introduced to your amazing grandkids and your formidable writing ability!
Never got the chance to tell you that I lived in Riverton,WY. for a while as a kid. My gramma took me in when my folks split up. That was the coldest Halloween I ever lived thru'..

Hi Michelle! I have always wanted to see Canada but never got closer than Toledo! Lol!
I like it here alot. Lots cleaner and less humid than LA, and we go "home" for Mardi Gras every year, plus Mother's day for fresh crawfish...kinda the best of both worlds. Hubs is retired so we're together just about 24/7...it's all good.
We have 2 acres in the thriving rural area called Beauregard...most people have at least heard of Opelika so I referenced it intead. We are in the process of fencing the spare lot in Hope's of keeping some livestock and allowing the "girls" to free range more than just the back yard. I'm supposed to be getting some call ducks after the holidays,so we will dig a small pond. Hopefully that will keep em out of our swimming pool! Also building up a nice compost bin to have a garden patch.
Hubs and I both grew up with horses so that's not out of the question, but time will tell
I'm hoping to get ducks in the late spring. I have to wait for the ground to thaw before I can start digging anything. The chicken runs flood badly, so I'm going to dig a moat around them for the ducks.
Call ducks are absolutely adorable! You'll have to share lots of pics once you have them!

I love the folks down here! We passed thru Defuniak springs on our way to the beach. Cute town and sweet people we met there.
y'all have to let me know when you're going thru, and maybe swing by for coffee or diet mt.dew lol, our place is off 83, we're on lake juniper, we usually down here from dec to april or beginning of may, you're welcome anytime

Oh you gonna get tired of all the duck pictures! I hope the lady still wants to place them since I haven't talked to her for a while. She lives in FL. and we are supposed to meet her 1/2 way to get them. Crossing my fingers on it,but I will probably order from Meyers hatchery if she backs out.
We had Mallards growing up,when my dad sold them all they flew away from the new owners! We never lost one before that. Guess they were used to being spoiled.
Maybe you can trench the run and draIn it to make a duck pond?
