The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Looks like I got here just in time to say good night!

Hi Chris, is today the day your new roo may show up?

Got one but he's gonna be another couple of months before he'll be getting his leg over - not much choice here at the moment - dunno why. Also got a couple of dual purpose pullets - kinda like that messy bum thing

, oh and a mutt bird for sitting. Just thinking about building a coop / run for the roo, so he doesn't run around being a nutter when he's ready for action. Poor things are in a run at the moment, but they've never had sun on their backs or dirt under their feet -must be soooo confused

They have Hells Angels in Kenya?

Are you supposed to find out about the roo today? I going to talk you into hatching some chicks

Cant imagine they have 'em here - don't have the hair or the bike, so I'll give that one a miss. No need to talk me into hatching - thats why roo esquire is now resident - just gonna have to wait for a bit (patience is not a virtue i have when it comes to chickens). Still, it will give me a bit of time to scrape some money together to make a shambles of a run and coop for him. I do have another cockerel, but he's useless, so when he grows up he'll be killed and sold.

Berts, good find on the troll monkeys!

Chris, congrats on getting a roo. Even a young one is better than none at all.

Interesting night here. Found this little chick behind the dust bath in the run...she and another one had found a small gap in their pen that we missed. Caught one, found the other dead behind the dust bath, so we put the one we found back and fixed the gap so no more would find it. Started wrapping the dead chick in a plastic bag to take out. She moved her beak..just barely...but that was enough for a change of plans. I wasn't even sure if her beak opening was a gasp for air or just a fluke from being none-to-gently handled. Brought her inside, stuck her in the incubator until Ken got a warming place set up for her. She was stiffening, ice cold to touch, no breaths - just nothing.

In the incubator.

Then to a basket in the kitchen. Basket is sitting on a heating pad, then we pulled the other end of the heating pad over the top.

Put her back out with the others last night, and she was glad to be there.
