The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

The question is will the chickens attempt to fly over the fence. It depends how badly they want in the woods. It might work ?
Hot wire for pigs? The top wire is probably no higher than about 2'. Yeah chickens will jump over that with hardly a flap.

i think they drained it to kill all of the lily pads and grass that was taking over
I wonder how long it has to be dry, REALLY REALLY dry, before the lily pad roots die. Even if the grass dies there are tons of seeds in the lake bed. It could be desert dry for several years and the first rain will get those grass seeds coming back up.

The doc told me he could stick a needle into the joint along with pain killer and dye. Do a CT scan to see if something's 'a miss' and at the same time if the pain killer didn't work then it isn't arthritis. This would be an in hospital procedure, so I declined the invitation. I'm not real sure that sticking a needle that deep into my pelvis wouldn't cause other problems. The nerves are already so messed up, I just don't want to chance having anything else go bad.
Probably resting it is a good idea...

Belive me dont leave any gaps for chickens If a goat can get their head in they will work it till they can muscle out... There are ways to make pass through for people that would exclude large animals... you could make a scaled down version for chickens....

Best I can do is share pictures
Y shaped pass through

There is also a Kissing Gate for people....

If I made something like this on a smaller scale I wonder if the goats would be able to figure it out.

Pretty cool tho thanks for the pics.

I always try to be open minded.

i think they drained it to kill all of the lily pads and grass that was taking over, i wish they would dredge it but i don't think they can due to all of the tree stumps in the bottom, you had to be very careful not to get the boat on top of one and get stuck, no way could you run fast with a motor, even a electric you had to go slow, lots and lots of tree stumps, course that gave the fish places to hide around. will try to take a picture to show you when it gets daylight
Sounds really cool. Must be pretty thick at your place. It it your lake ?

My mom liked the hustle and bustle too Sharron. A lot of times we had to go see family out of state and that just added to the whole "bustle" factor. DH & I like having a quiet day just for the 2 of us...open a couple of gifts, have a nice breakfast, watch some Christmas movies, nap, whatever. It makes for a more restful, enjoyable day for us!
Sounds nice:thumbsup...

The kids have a race around the house during Chanukah with there new gifts . Every year I say Im too old for chasing the kids around the house but they turn the lights off at night and tempt me into chasing them:lau.

Sorry I hope you get better. Someone in my family has had similar problems. At one point she thought it was a fracture and decided to go to the hospital. They said it wasn't a fracture and sent her home with pan meds :hmm. That was over two years ago. She still can't bend over but she has been healing and has cleaned up her diet a lot. Now she drinks pure celery juice every day and has cut almost all the sugar out of her diet. Not saying this is going to happen to you ,I just thought I would share it with you.

Yes you are right they probably will just fly over the fence. I just thought they might be afraid of the electricity:)

You just have to be ready to spot it... Wild Mustard Grows EVERYWHERE...

High desert has more foliage YOu can eat lots of things... and grow pleanty but you have to beat the wild animals to it. As well as Amending the soil. horse manure is awesome but it needs to cook in compost for about a year or two. Rabbit is best because it doesn't need to be composted.

The only determining denominator is water. No water No garden. Thats why I will put in a grey water purification system ... Which includes water hyacinth.... A few fish to keep down the mosquitos and use the final product for the garden. Water hyacinth can be dried compacted and used in the fire place. And its prolific I want to use it as well in my Aqua ponics system to give baby fish a place to hide

Water hyacinth

There are other uses for them as well .... Dried they can be used for weaving baskets or using in permaculture.... But the best use for me would be bundling as a wood substitute in a Rocket stove.

Very resourceful!!!

Don do you mind if I ask if you are Jewish? You don't have to answer if you don't care to.
I'm not UP on everything but, I know Jews aren't supposed to eat pork because pigs have cloven hooves. Or sea food that have no scales. Generally foods that Arabs call Hallah have been slaughtered the same as Kosher.

I see no reason why you can't pet dogs and like them, you just aren't supposed to eat them. If you come across member Brahma Chicken 5000, he could tell you much more.

My mother's parents were Orthodox but, my mother was very lax about it. It was easy finding Kosher deli's and butcher shops in Chicago but not true after we moved out 50 years ago.

You could google "kosher foods," or similar and probably get more info than I can give you.
No I don't mind answering that. I'm not Jewish. I started reading the bible every day for awhile. And I realized all the different things we aren't following today. Yes I don't eat sea food either Other then fish. I take into consideration what people tell me then I test it to the bible. I also watch educational you tube videos . Funny you mention it I talked to brahma chicken 500 about the being Jewish every now and then to he's a smart guy. !!
