The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Good chilly morning everyone!

@Blooie loved your story of the tree, village and moose nativity! Were the moose from Big Sky Montana? They remind me of the bears I have from them. So glad Ken was able to get you another set. I love it when there's stories behind the things we have around us.

Today is the day. I'm going to force myself to get started on that gingerbread coop. Spent so much time looking for stuff yesterday, I didn't feel like messing with it. But today is the day for coop assembly. Wish me luck, this could be a total disaster (I'm not known for my construction skills)!

What's everyone else up to today?
Yep, they were originally from Big Sky Montana. Here is a link to a conversation about them that I had with OakLodge after Ken got me the replacement set....

I was mistaken in my dates - it wasn't last year he got them for me, it was the year before.

Glad that you enjoyed the stories. And I'll bet that there will be a Charlie Brown Tree in Kendra's, Evan's and Katie's homes when they grow up, too! At least I hope so. I forgot one other tradition - Santa Baby. When she was two, Katie came with me to the drug store to pick up a prescription. They had a bunch of those annoying stuffed toys that sing and/or dance when you press their paws. To keep her entertained I was going down the row squeezing paws and she was watching with great interest. I came to one, a teddy bear that sang "Santa Baby" and she totally lost it. Oh, that baby laughed so hard!! So I pressed it again. The laughter came from way down in her toes........people were moving over closer just to watch her reactions and listen to the joy in her laugh. One lady reached out before I could and squeezed the paw again just to hear her. Well, being the good gramma that I am, I bought the goofy thing. She was captivated. She would sing along and just giggle...last Christmas when she was 9 and Ken brought in the storage boxes, as always she went tearing through the one that she knew held Santa Baby and grinned with delight when Grampa put the batteries in. And in another joyful twist Kendra, who had ignored that thing since she was born, crawled over as fast as she could to see it herself. After that every time she was at the house she'd crawl over to it and play it over and over again. Then, to our total amazement, one day she crawled over to the couch with it, got up on her knees, and began to sing along with it, over and over. This little girl, who doesn't converse at all, was singing!! I'm gonna bore you with more video here.

Katie at 5 with her Santa Baby. She was always so happy to find it in its Christmas box.

Kendra discovers Santa Baby - you have to really listen, but she's singing along!!

And now I'm going to slip back into my corner and be good while I wait for you to share some of your most special Christmas traditions. Let me grab another cup of coffee first.....

The deal with my dad is...my mother hated my father....so after he was cremated she never picked him up.....so years later I signed over his remains to my grandmother....so she had him buried but I have no idea where. Because when she died the rest of the family cut me off from any inheritance so we don't talk anymore. I could care less about any of the inheritance but I find the whole thing disgusting.....

Construction has begun...

We have walls! And they're still upright!

Next step (after the wall seams dry) is the roof. Oy, this is nerve-wracking work. Can't wait to get to the fun part...putting candies all over/around it.

Blooie, here are a few of my Big Sky Montana bears:

A good friend gave me this one after my sister died.

Mom gave me the mother & cubs in a fir tree (she said it reminded her of me & the boys).
The one with the cubs going after the honey in a hollow tree was from a special place I used to go to in KS City.

Hey, who do we have here? Your moose and one of my bears!

Pardon my dust!
