I am not sure that it is selfishness not to have children.
Nor is it selfish to have children. When thought is put into having or not having children, it is never a selfish decision.

I think being proud -let's say "Happy"-about our children's accomplishments Is a good thing.
Better to acknowledge their efforts than for them to never feel the sense of accomplishment.
Some parents can never be pleased no matter a child's effort.
That can be damaging to a child. It IS damaging.
Some of us had parents that were only 'proud', never 'proud of'. There is a huge huge difference.
Brag on that kid BertS! Brag on all of them.
There is something that each one does that no other child can do, and even if it is just bringing a smile to your face that day, them Hurray for them!
