Thanks everyone!

Tee hee Scott .. I have starting packing in my head

OK so he does not have the job yet but the reality of what we are doing kicked in last night.

If he does get the job he will likely be gone in 3 weeks or so leaving me to pack, deal with the real estate, manage the transport of the cats and chickens and possibly without a car for 5 months depending on the final plans. That, plus working full time and missing my best mate who will be 1,300kms away. I do not think we have been apart 5 days, let alone 5 months! But then I realised that people do this all the time [Blooie is probably nodding right now

] and that the end result will be worth it so told myself to suck it up Princess and get on with the job!

That situation is pretty much what I did last year Teila.

With only 2 weeks notice, DH had to get to WY for the new job while I packed up the house, got some house repairs done, sold it, found a new home for the goats and chickens, etc. I did have our car because DH drove a rental truck packed with some stuff ahead of me. It took me 3 weeks to wrap things up in FL, thank goodness my oldest son drove from Kansas to Florida to help). That was the longest we'd been apart...seemed like twice that long.

You're right, the end result will be worth it, you can do this! We'll be here to talk you through it (or sympathize if you need it).

Nothing to apologize for at all! I just wanted to let you know I understand what you're facing. Lots of OMG moments to be sure, it can seem overwhelming. One thing that helped me was to just take everything one small step at a time and try not to look at the whole picture.

Moving is a pretty good way of getting rid of excess stuff...my neighbors in FL had a great time getting all the "freebies" and that really helped me out too.

Before DH left, we did a quick sort of things and called an auctioneer to sell a bunch of stuff for us. That helped tremendously and the check was nice to get.

And it helped to know I could come here and whine for a bit, lol, so don't be bashful about doing that.

So you do whatever you need to, we're here for you!

Tee hee .. I can see myself sending a lot of well deserved thank you’s .. Thank You!

Yep ‘one day at a time’ helped me to suppress the OMG moment last night and I have already started planning what is going in the garage sale or on Gumtree [classified’s]

Dad’s house is already pretty much kitted out so besides our lounge suite, fridge, freezer, television and washing machine which are newer than his, we probably will not have a lot of big stuff to move. If we take out the whole 'chicken move' thing it will be a doddle .. lol

So you're Dad is already up there? That's a help, you'll know what you're moving into.

When DH got this job here in WY, we knew a house came with the job but had no idea what it looked like or the size. After he got here, he let me know it was small but I still brought too much. I don't mind getting rid of every day, practical things but I do have my special "treasures", lol. This house isn't just small, it's small.

Transporting the animals would be tricky. I didn't have that to deal with but maybe if you started a new thread asking other members how they handled it, you could get some ideas.

When I moved from CA to NM, about 11 hours away, I put my 4 hens in a dog crate with shavings on the bottom. About every 2 hours, I'd put water and food in the crate and take the dogs for a walk. Then I'd take it out so stuff wouldn't spill. So that last 11 hour trip turned into 14 hours, but we made it.

Hi! DH and I are babysitting the grandkids this week, so I haven't had as much time to check in.

It's nice here in Denver, and we should have pretty good weather all week. Thank goodness!

Funny, I've never been a fan of big cities but while my parents lived in Denver I always liked visiting there. There's a lot to see and do in Denver. I'm a huge museum fan (of any kind), have you been to the natural history museum Friday? That's a good one. And the zoo is great, but maybe too chilly this time of year.

We're just SW of Denver proper in Highlands Ranch, a huge planned development of big, cookie cutter houses with open space and rec centers. A great place for families but not my style. DD2 lives in SW Denver, so we don't really go into downtown that much. The 16th street mall is always fun, with funky restaurants and shopping. Haven't been to the NH museum though, we may have to do that.

But this trip we'll mostly stay home. The kids are in preschool so I can work in the mornings, then we are working on the yard, taking boxes to the recycling center, pitching broken toys, and all the other stuff the kids don't have time for. Catching up on a ton of laundry as well, plus sewing up holes in stuffed animals. ( Which is actually kind of fun)
