The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Teila, it sounds like things are really shaping up for the re-location! I can just imagine the birds delight with the compost bin, lol.

That's great your bosses are being so accommodating, sure makes things easier

Happy Anniversary Blooie - hope you have a lovely day!

Glad everything is going smoothly for you Teila - sounds like you've got everything under control.

Sorry drumstick diva - we are still waiting for the Java finch eggs to hatch. They cannot be far off hatching now. The eggs looked pretty full and dark so surely any day now they will pop out and say "Hi".

I've just ordered a little incubator. So far I've managed to hatch my quail under our bantam chickens, but none of my seasoned girls are broody, and my two bantam cochins (pekins) that are (first time) broody both did not appreciate being moved, despite me braving getting eaten alive by mosquitoes and doing it in the dark. By the next morning they were yelling for their friends and refusing to sit on those weird eggs, despite the fact that there were some bantam eggs in there too. I need a few more female quail (after last hatch's 9 boys to 2 girls debacle) and I should get some lovely colours from my young ones.

Valentine and Luvy, the society finch cuties, are living up to their name. This morning they've decided to move in with the Bourkes and even tucked up with them in their cardboard box nest. Very cute! I'm pretty sure they are eating the millet now and they are certainly demanding less food. The Bourkes have been eating egg food and apple, so they won't take long, which I'm very pleased about. I'll keep offering baby food until they decide they don't need it anymore.

Rosie took off flying this morning and made it across the room, surprising everyone, including herself. Thankfully the cats weren't that interested! I'm a bit paranoid about open windows now. It's so humid here at the moment that we need a bit of air going through the house, but I'm very conscious of what's open when. I'll try and get some decent photos of them all.

I bought the kids a Lego set that has lots of bits and pieces for making buildings. They have spent all morning making houses and gardens (they decided not to follow the instructions), and now they are playing with them with their toys and other Lego sets (and 'touch wood' there haven't been many arguements). My DD's one is amazing. She had a few frustrated moments as she worked out how to make certain bits strong enough, but it's a gorgeous house. I'm not at all creative when it comes to Lego, so she had to help her younger brother make his house!

Loved Legos for the kids and grandkids! Kendra won't have a thing to do with them....neither the small ones nor the bigger, toddler ones. Oh, well....she's too busy with other important stuff to worry about doing what Gramma would like to see her do. Now, give that girl Playdoh and she's off! Of all the kids I've raised, cared for, or even been around, she's the only one we have ever had to use it so much we have to constantly replenish that stuff. She plays with one color so much that it starts to get stiff and dry up, so she gets a different color and does the same thing. She doesn't like the colors to get mixed up together, so she plays with one at a time. Silly baby!

Yayy, Rosie!!! Can't wait for photos of the new babies, too!

Mine love playdough too - I make home made stuff as it would be too expensive otherwise. I make up a big batch of white as then my son divides it up so we can add food colouring to make the primary colours, and leaving a bit white, so that he can then mix his own colours. He's obsessed with rainbows at the moment, drawing them, painting them and making them out of playdough. With the paint and the dough he usually runs out of space halfway through, so has to add green, blue and purple above the red, orange and yellow!
