The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Blooie, I am amazed at how fast this happened, so glad Tam has a new home.
So were we!! Tam worked with Shannon on the night shift for years, until last summer when Shannon moved across the mountains to Buffalo to be closer to her adult kids. Shannon's husband had a relatively rare and aggressive form of brain cancer, and Shannon's mom was very ill at the same time he was diagnosed. Her mom passed, so Tam spent a couple of weeks helping Shannon get her mother's house and property cleaned up and ready to sell, and that was a fast sale! Tam actually had a key and would go over when Shannon had to take hubby in for medical stuff, but they knew what was going to happen so he refused extreme measures and died during his last hospitalization. Shannon turned to Tam again and Tam didn't let her down. Part of his insurance was used to pay the house off, she moved to Buffalo, and she 's been paying taxes and utilities on two properties. So when she saw Tam's problem on FB she knew the answer to both their prayers. It's an old house, built in 1937, but Shannon had a new roof, new flooring, new appliances, and new furnace put in before she put it on the market. It hasn't sold in all that time. Looks pretty rough on the exterior but the inside is pretty nice, with all those wide archways between rooms....but Tam always teased Shannon about how much she loved turquoise! Seems every other room is painted that color. It totally suits Tam's personality - old enough to have some character but updated, and it's so bright and sunny in there!

Tam's bedroom actually has a separate sitting room. There are 3 more bedrooms upstairs and an open den at the top of the stair landing up there as well. Katie will get her own room there for those times when the kids are out of town and Katie stays with Aunt Tammy. I didn't get any shots of the upstairs, which is really cute. Tam got all excited when she took Evan over there after school so he could look and pick out his room - the "For Sale" sign had been taken down!

I'm up early this morning. We have to pick Kendra up at 7 and head for Billings. Ken's appointment with his surgeon is this morning so I've already had my tea, my shower, packed a catheter bag, and am ready to go, and it's only 5:30. <sigh> I'm too old for this. I promise Tam I'd stop at Lowes and Home Depot and get some paint samples for her. I have a feeling it's going to be a loooong day.

Cute house Blooie!! I love houses with charm. You must get pics of the upstairs ...in your spare time

My dream is too buy an old Victorian and turn it into a small bed and breakfast( I have one picked out in town)unaffordable as it is selling high and needs a lot of work to the main floor....upstairs is original and beautiful. My son is going to a coal and gold mine in Wyoming...I hope he takes some pictures.

@Blooie that's a great house! I love the arched doorways and the size of the kitchen is giving me a serious case of storage space envy. She has baseboard heating too, that's going to be handy nice. Heck, the new roof should be good for ages, insurance companies love new roofs. Personally, I like older homes, they have so much character. Terrific story about the house and Shannon & Tam's friendship...this house was meant for Tam and Evan!

Hope the appointment goes well today. Let me know if I need to set up a 2nd patient room here at my convalescence center

Sounds like a busy day indeed!

Oh, so I didn't misread your first post about his upcoming trip....then I'd bet it's up on South Pass at Atlantic City. As far as I know it's the only one that is still commercially active, but there are several others in the state as well - I just don't know about commercial mining there.

Hope he loves this place and wants to come back.....and brings you with him! We could all meet at Debby's Country Club for tea and crumpets!

It's actually a hot water circulating system. I misspoke when I said "new furnace" and should have said new boiler and piping. Yeah, if I decide to send Ken packing Ken needs more intensive nursing I'll keep you in mind!

Everyone is welcome! I have lots of tea and coffee. No crumpets but I made a delicious maple & rum pound cake yesterday

I'm seriously thinking of enrolling the 3 cats in nursing school. After all, there are three of them, they could work shifts.
