Teila, we're here for you!

Please keep us posted, ok?

Telia x2 on those positive vibes

...hope the cyclone goes another way.

Blooie, hope Ken's stress test turns out ok.

Maybe the EKG findings were because his blood pressure was up.

DMC - congrats on your son's accomplishment.

Debby, so glad y'all have more help this year. And hope they will do most of the work so you won't have those 14 hours days this season. Sorry about your DH having another surgery so soon....but this one likely will be easier than the foot procedure.

JaeG - the babies are all so cute....but have you considered moving the Javas' cage somewhere they will not be disturbed and think they're hungry all the time

Hope I haven't missed too much, it's difficult to keep up....my job is getting in the way. But starting April I'll have some time off

Teila, fingers crossed it will blow itself out before making landfall!

I had to help a quail chick hatch yesterday. It hadn't made any progress past a pip for over 24 hours. Due to the very hot, humid weather my incubator temperature shot up so I spent the whole day trying to keep it cool enough. I managed to hit a vein and make the poor little thing bleed (not much thankfully) so I left it awhile longer, but then what was left of the shell started drying and sticking to it so I had to soak it off. It was still attached to the shell by it's 'umbilical cord' and all it did was lie on its side, twitching every now and then. It was like that all afternoon and still like that when I went to bed at 10pm. I thought I'd get up in the morning to find a dead chick. When I looked in it wasn't in its compartment, but running round the incubator, full of vim and vigour, trying to find a way to the other two babies who had hatched (different compartment as they are from a different group). So I've called it Miracle.

I also had one that had splayed legs that wasn't looking good. Of course it's my DD's favourite. It seemed so lethargic, but thankfully yesterday it was looking a lot brighter. Both chicks with splayed legs are absolutely fine now after 24 hours in hobbles.

Anyway, here's little Miracle, and another chick that's my favourite, only because it's so pretty. It hasn't got a name yet - not sure my brain can keep up with anymore names!

Drumstick Diva, I'll try and get a decent photo of the adult Javas so you can see their colour. They are just so nervous it's not easy!

Blooie, hope you are managing to keep Ken from doing too much and that he'll get through the stress test ok.

Thanks heaps everyone, your support means a lot to me

It is hard to explain but I am sure you have all been in a situation where there is a weather event or something similar threatening a loved one from whom you are separated? They are where they are, going about their day, may be prepping for it etc while you are many, many miles away, no idea what is happening and seeing the reports of imminent danger. They are telling you it is fine and you are thinking OMG! ?? That is me! lol It is nice to have friends to talk it out with.

So, she [not being sexist but naming convention dictates that if a cyclone does form, this one is going to have a girls name] is still a tropical low, not classified a tropical cyclone [yet?].

Our most prominent Storm Chaser’s latest update was “Convection exploding around the Tropical Low in the Coral Sea tonight! Things are about to get serious for NQLD in the coming days... Stay tuned!”

The more stoic and less excitable Bureau of Meteorology is saying “A tropical low pressure system is located southeast of the Papua New Guinea mainland. It is forecast to drift southward for the next 24 to 36 hours, before turning more westward towards the tropical Queensland coast late Friday or on Saturday.
Conditions are favourable for this system to develop, and the probability of it forming into a tropical cyclone will steadily increase into the weekend. With a Moderate chance [20-50%] of the system being a tropical cyclone on Saturday but High chance on Sunday [Over 50%].
This system is likely to make landfall on the north tropical Queensland coast early next week.”

So, 2.5 weeks into coping without hubby here, I think I have done pretty well, no venting, no tantrums, no pouting, taking it all in my stride and getting on with things.

However, soon I might need some moral support because my resolve may be tested in the form of a Cyclone developing off the coast and if it does form, predicted to cross the coast between Cairns and Mackay. Guess what town is smack bang in the middle of that distance range?

There have been a few cyclones up that way [it is in the zone] but during Yasi [which was a Cat 5] in 2011 we lost contact with FIL for many days and this was a worrying period. We kept telling ourselves that no news was good news and that he was fine and he was; just no phone or electricity for a week so no real means of contacting us.

Not sure I wanna go through that again with both hubby and FIL in the path

This is where you all tell me not to worry .. it won't form .. it won't cross the coast .. they will be fine

Alright Teila, here goes-
Don't worry. It won't form. It won't cross the coast. And all will be fine!
Some of the most difficult times in our lives are spent worrying about things that never come to fruition.

YAY!

Poor DH has been through it alright with 2 surgeries within 2 months. But his frankenfoot is getting better all the time and the hernia repair should be easy after that. I don't know if he appreciated me laughing this morning though...he was walking through the house and it sounded like this:
klomp, step
klomp, step
cough, ouch
cough, ouch
klomp, step

Now really, who wouldn't have laughed?

Oh no, isn't the Frankenfoot better?

My DH had an inguinal hernia repair last summer and he recovered quite easily. Hope the upcoming surgery goes well for your DH as well.

But 2 surgeries in 2 months
