Buenos dias Sra. Nicky, como esta usted?

Muy bien, gracias. Y tu?

Eh, so right.

Just found out I lost another of my employees. This guy was going to be my cook/baker on the weekends but the place he works for Mon-Fri said if he took another baking job on the weekend, they would fire him. Can't blame him for keeping his 40 hr/week job but I'm not thinking very kind thoughts of his employer.

Aye chihuahua. People, sometimes they just stink.

Sorry you lost another employee. That's really mean of his other employer.

I just candled the society finches eggs and all 6 are fertile. They are Valentine and Luvy's parents so hopefully they'll do better this time around. I'll keep a close eye on them though. My button quail is sitting on 6 eggs (haven't had a chance to candle them yet), and I discovered one pair of Java finches have laid a clutch of 6 eggs in a budgie box I thought no one was using. I think she's just started sitting on them. So I think the total will be a few over 100! The only problem with an aviary is it's not easy catching birds when you do want to find them new homes.

It is a beautiful 55* sunny day and I just cleaned out the coop....should have saved it for a cloudy day but it's done. Stunk to high heaven when I started digging into it. I am now sitting on the deck on my rocking chair my son so kindly pulled out of the garage for me and that sunshine feels great

I personally don't see why it would matter if he took another baking job. I guess some employers just want to keep their employees under lock and key. If it were me in his circumstance, I'd promptly point out to my current employer, I don't remember signing an exclusivity clause. And if that's what you want, then I want a raise for the inconvenience of you limiting my income. ;)

How did you go with the weather Blooie and N F C? No blizzards I hope.

Blooie well-meaning friends probably should stick to “speedy recovery” and “get well soon” . I am sure a lack of sleep and 11 days of dreading the PT is not helping Ken’s healing process.

Bunnylady thank you for the tip. I had not thought about venomous beasties being dislodged. While I do not think that snakes will be an issue, I am sure there are some smaller, rather cranky ‘nasty bite' critters in amongst the debris.

N F C Sorry to hear about your continuing employee dramas. However, I was thinking that it might be a good thing that your cook/baker has changed his mind to keep his 40 hour/week job? Hey, of course I do not know the guy, but I wonder if your being his second job could make him a little unreliable? If he has had a big week at the other place, he might decide he does not feel like working the weekend also, possibly let you down a few times. May be someone who really needs the work and money as opposed to additional money might be more reliable.

J good luck with the eggs.

DMC sounds like a nice end to a productive day.

Today is forecast to be sunny and 80.5F with NO chance of any rain!

Washing, mowing and clean up on today’s agenda.

I have a bit of a story to share .. remember the palm tree across the verge and onto the road. When I got home from work yesterday someone had rightly pulled the palm tree off the road but doing that meant that ½ of my front verge was covered in palm tree and leaves. Knowing that I wanted to mow the lawns this morning, I set about trying to fix that. I couldn’t swing it back off my lawn because it would end up back in the road and no way could I lift it over the power box to lay across his verge; too heavy and doing so would mean destroying more of his 'garden' [I use the term loosely].

So, while I am standing there trying to work out how to tackle this one, the neighbour from across the road and her brother come over to offer assistance. Rather than trying to lift it etc, the brother suggested we put it back to its original position and just saw off the part protruding into the road.

As we were doing this, the neighbour whose tree it was came out to see what we were doing. I explained that I was trying to get it off my verge so I could mow and had he called Council or anyone to come and remove it. His response “Nah, I am not too worried about it, it is not causing an issue”.

Seriously? While he may not care because his garden looks like a weed retreat and now has a downed palm tree squashing half of his garden beds, not only is his downed tree a problem for me, it is also a problem for pedestrians walking down the verge at night in the dark and I am pretty sure the postman is not going to be happy when he encounters it on Monday!

Usually I am Mrs Nice Lady and avoid confrontation but I had had just about enough at this stage and let him know exactly what I was thinking and walked away patting myself on the back for finally sticking up for my rights.

Now we wait to see just how long the tree stays there and/or if it becomes a permanent feature.

That's what really bugs me about that employer...they don't own him and if he wants to earn some money in his free time, they shouldn't be making threats. Poor guy came over here from Australia and wants to earn enough to go back.

DH and I are going to talk to him, see if he'll give me some baking lessons so I can handle that part in the club kitchen. I do quite a bit of baking, but this high altitude has really hurt my results. I'd love to know the ways around that. We'll see if he'll agree to give me some training.

Wow, that's some neighbor Teila! I'm glad you gave him a piece of your mind and hope he takes care of things like he should.
