The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I must have missed this, Blooie what's going on,why can't you swallow?

I had a major COPD flareup and ended up in the ER on Monday, thinking it might be a heart attack again. Turns out I have a lung infection, so after a lot of mutual discussion of the fact that I've already had a previous reaction to Prednisone, they felt the risks outweighed the benefits and being scared and miserable I agreed. Back in the ER on Wednesday - couldn't swallow and got a grape skin caught in my throat. Different doctor says stay on the Prednisone - it will help bring the swelling down. Um, yeah, not really. Called again on Friday....yet a third doctor told me to do what I'd already done that morning - stop taking the dam Prednisone. Still can't swallow...haven't taken my heart medications since Wednesday morning because they won't go anywhere. So I'm hungry, I'm mad, and I'm frustrated.

That sounds rough. I always wish there was a way for me to not be able to eat, but the reality is not a good thing. Can't swallow anything at all? Ice cream maybe? I hope you get better quick. I would be so hungry, especially if you are taking a steroid.

I'll get by. Could stand to lose a few pounds anyway. The only really bad part is that it feels like a big rock is stuck between my throat and my tummy, and things kinda sit on top of it and then slowly trickle down. So the heartburn is unbelievable. Then I think about Linda and Ashley and Rachel...and suddenly I don't feel so bad. Go figger...

Now wondering what's goin

Oh my, so sorry about the issue. That is a weird reaction. Have you had problems with swallowing in the past? IMO you should call your heart doc or primary care doc tomorrow, or call your pharmacist to see if you can crush up your important meds. Get some Ensure or just milkshakes or ice cream. You gotta keep your strength up.

Did they not give you some antibiotics for the infection?

If it's an allergic reaction, try some pediatric liquid Diphenhydramine = Benadryl.

Wish I could fly you to Macon, we have competent docs here :hugs

Not the way to lose weight.
This sounds more GI - maybe you have a narrowing in the esophagus.
