The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Good Morning. Hope everyone has a fun, safe 4th today.

DMC - so sorry about another broody :hugs.

We are in the process of supervised integration for my newbies - so far things are going well. But the real surprise is that even after a couple of pecks and retreat, the young ones go right back out as if nothing has happened. The Wellies IMO are braver than my BR's at that age ( and of course braver than the BO's). I still cannot tell them apart physically , but they each are demonstrating unique personalities :).

Hope I'm not too late to wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July!

Been feeling a bit blue today. The 4th used to be such a big deal when my 2 sons were young. And truthfully, I think I enjoyed it as much as the kids...the trips to every firework stand we could find to pick out the "best" fireworks, the boys eagerly planning their own show for the family, the meal grilled and the homemade ice cream. Then, when it was dark enough, the boys would put on their show, each taking a turn blowing something off. All followed by the big county show at the lake a couple miles from our house. Those were some great times.

I never could have kids so all holidays are depressing. I don't celebrate stuff. Cherish your good memories. It sounds like it was fun.

Rain, rain, go away!!! It's raining at my end of the world. It's going to keep raining until Monday (when we might have a fine day before it packs up again). I'm really sick of slippery, sticky mud!

How's your eye doing Debby? Hope the bruises are starting to fade. Did you feel like you had to explain to every customer what happened?

I'm not a big fan of fireworks (only on sale here for a few days over Guy Fawkes), more because we get people stocking up on them and letting them off whenever they feel like it for months and months and months and months. Thankfully our dog is used to all kinds of loud noises so it doesn't worry her, or our cats, but I do worry about my aviary birds.

I'm waiting for some Java finch eggs to hatch. They should hatch any day now. I checked them yesterday and they are still alive - four of them at this stage. We've had the odd cold night so that will delay them a bit. There are three infertile eggs too but they make good hot water bottles for the live eggs and chicks when they hatch. Their mother has been a lot more settled this time around so I'm hopeful I won't have to help out. The lady that gave them to me originally would like them back (I'll keep my seven hand reared cuties) as she got some more once she was settled in her new home but they all turned out to be boys, and the Fawn ones are hard to find. My female Bourke has also decided to have another clutch and has taken to her nestbox to start laying. It means the babies won't all hatch at the same time so I'll have to keep an eye on them. A pair of Society finches have five eggs all developing, but I cannot work out whose they are as there seems to be a lot of helpers! I'll let these babies hatch (if they do) then once everyone is finished I'll take the boxes down and give them all a break.

Good morning!

J, so many new babies coming up (hopefully :fl)! You'll have to share some pictures of them with us. Sorry about all the rain, sounds like a real mess. Thanks for asking about my bumps & bruises...still have a bit of a black eye and a sore ankle but things are gradually getting better.

OHLD, you're right about treasuring the good memories. How are you doing these days?

DD, is your son still with you? Hope you're having fun together.

Sunflour, glad things are going well with the integration.

Has anyone seen Blooie around?

You all have a great day!

I am doing okay. I'm in the waiting phase for my hernia repair surgery. I was excited yesterday that I discovered that I could ride my bike again since my knee replacement, but upon dismounting, I used my not replaced knee to land on and sorely wished I hadn't, and wished I didn't need to put off one surgery for another, but one a year if possible, for me to give me time to recover.

Otherwise I am overrun with chickens, around 100, enjoying my bunnies, who are going to get spayed and neutered, because I keep worrying I will forget to lock someone's hutch and I will become a rabbit breeder.

My raised garden boxes are working wonderfully, I am enjoying gardening without having to even bend over.

Glad to hear you are feeling better after your fall. It does take a while for those bruises to go away.
