The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Hi everyone!

We had a good time yesterday, it was so much fun to spend time together laughing over old family stories. On the way north we did stop at the places mentioned and they were interesting. Unfortunately, as soon as I was going to take the first photo, I found out the batteries had died but J took lots of pictures and he'll share them.

Back to work today. What's everyone else up to?

Good Morning.

Debby, glad you had fun.

I'm off today but gotta go find a new clothes washer. Ours is not old, but it gets loads of dry flaky brown-black stuff in the washes. I have cleaned everything over and over and changed the water hoses and still this junk is increasing. Guess the internal hosing or something is disintegrating :barnie. Warranties don't cover this.

I so miss the days when appliances were built to last almost forever :old

@sourland, I think the record for car ages in this family goes to Ken's 1980 Datsun pickup. He bought it a few years ago when the widow of one of his Masonic brothers passed away. The Mason bought it brand new off the lot, and died a short time later. His wife didn't know how to drive a standard transmission so the pickup went out to a separate garage on their property and there it sat. Every year she had Garvin Motors come pick it up, change the oil, rotate the tires, and check all the seals and such. After she died, one of the other Masons was the executor of her estate, and he offered the truck to Ken, who had been wanting a small putt-around truck. It had 28,000 miles on it! Yep, a 1980 with 28,000 miles on it. Looked great, ran great, and he really enjoyed it. But insuring and licensing 5 vehicles was getting to be a bit much, so we sold it back in March or April.

@sunflour, is that a common issue with top loading washers? I think I read that somewhere -

Debby, I'm glad you are at least getting to enjoy J's visit...even if it meant you had to have problems with the water system at the course to get the time!

Funny, I haven't noticed that comforting "new car" smell in the RAV, either - smells more like new rubber but that might be coming off the full all-weather floor liners. Guess I didn't even think about that, but this one's old now - it's got 65 miles on it now so it's almost a classic! I didn't mean to imply that I'd been driving the same vehicle since 1983 - just that particular kind of vehicle.

I've been spending the last two days trying to learn buttons and gee-gaws on this thing and I've come to the conclusion that I now have enough down pat to drive it - I found the gear shift, the blinkers (yes, some people DO use them), the wipers, and the lights. Good enough for me!

Always get just a little queasy from new car smell (chemical sensitivities) so a new car that doesn't smell like one sounds mighty good to me! What I love is the casual confidence of getting behind the wheel and knowing exactly what the car will do, how it will respond - almost as if, when I put my hands on the steering wheel, there are nerves running from my hands all the way out to the wheels. Blooie, I hope you get that comfortable with your new wheels soonest!

My vehicle smells like rubber due to the mats too...I was just thinking today about taking them out as the smell isn't pleasant. I used to always put towels down so the floor didn't get dirty but they bunch up. My vehicle is 1-1/2 years old now so is losing the new car smell. I don't like all the new gadgets but love the backup camera.

Did you find a new washer Sunflour? Post a pic

So glad you had a good time! I can't wait to see pictures:wee
I let all my girls out tonight, they have hardly been out at all. They get a couple hours at night and that's it. One of my new girls is a pain as you can see...Susie Q, my barred rock was voicing her opinion loudly on all the chaos going on with critters and a new, naughty puppy and having very little freedom...We got our 9th coon last night which was out during the daylight...scary!

I'm looking forward to seeing those photos too.

DMC, I love the naughty chicken on the roof! She looks very pleased with herself to be up higher than everyone else! Yikes about the racoons! How's the very cute Hattie doing? Chaos on four legs?

Here's my little baby at 48 hours old. I've nicknamed it Squeak as that's the sound s/he makes when s/he's hungry. Trying to hold that floppy head and get food into his/her mouth is fun. I'm so scared of squashing him (I'm just going to call it 'him' for now) but he's so wriggly and will turn really fast towards my hand if I let him go meaning he ends up the wrong way round to try and aim food in the right place. I've had to give him a fuzzy wash cloth folded up so he can burrow into it. It's a poor substitute for a feathery mother, but it's going to be very cold again tonight and we'll more than likely have frost in the morning so I'm glad I didn't try giving him back to Pinkie. She's pretty much got a baby under each breast out there and they are growing fast.

I found a youtube video showing my problem. Decided to try to clean ours before considering a new one. Yesterday got my wash done, did 3 "sterilizing" washes with a washer cleaner. Tomorrow me and DH are gonna take that baby apart and see what's hidden inside . Kinda like Geraldo Rivera's investigation of Al Capone's basement or the Blair Witch Project....no telling what secrets or nasties we may find :lau. I'll take pics if there's anything to report:)

two days trying to learn buttons and gee-gaws

Hope you like your new wheels.

I hope the little guy makes it :fl and if so, do name it Squeak.
