This discussion of dog training reminded me - I recently watched "The Queen" on Netflix. It's about how the British royal family dealt with the aftermath of Diana's death, and it stars Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth. Couldn't possibly do something about her without her dogs, right? In scenes at Balmoral, we see her with 3 Labs, in others, there are the iconic Corgis (sometimes, there were so many in the scene, I wasn't sure just how many there were! Is it 5?) Clearly, these dogs were well trained and the actress had spent some time working with them; they had their eyes glued on her and when she said, "come dogs," they almost moved as one. I couldn't help but wonder about outtakes, though. Dogs will be dogs, after all.
Years ago, DH and I had a couple of Shepherd mixes that someone abandoned and we adopted. They were trouble on paws! Bunsen was the brains of the outfit - I'd get mad about their latest act of destruction, and he'd tip his head to one side and you could just hear him say, "you're mad again. Maybe you should see someone about that temper of yours." But one thing they learned early was that automatic "sit." I might catch Bunsen with the latest infraction still in his jaws, and he'd turn around, look at me, and sit. You knew he was thinking, "Sit. You never get in trouble by sitting." Can't yell at a dog that's being good, right? And then he'd tip his head, and it was all I could do not to laugh. Gads I miss that dog!
She has learned when she comes racing up to you to sit as she wants to be pet. We are training like you did.
