I have some pure breeds and a few mixes. You are probably referring to my mottled ones? Which were my home made mixes. I used to have 2 hens but lost one last year. I currently have 19 turkeys.

We have had wind off Irma already for the past 2 days, now having light rain and wind gusts - we expect to get some higher winds and heavier rain later today. At least my flocks are getting along

Good morning Debby and all. I haven't cut the melon yet. I'm hoping it's ripe or the chickens will be enjoying it. We are off to Fargo today and spending the night. Craig wants to go to Big Iron tomorrow so were doing an anniversary/Big Iron thing together.

Every time we butcher one it comes with horrible guilt, especially since I don't eat meat. I've decided no more. I do my best to be left alone for holidays, exactly like I like it, but my husband will often guilt me into visiting. No more gathering here anymore, too stressful on my dogs, and me.

You sound alot like me but, I admit I love turkey & chicken invited to dinner - but, I don't know any of them personally. I handle social guilt quite well, no weddings, no tupperware parties,etc - no holiday gatherings(since my mom died 21 years ago).

Baby and wedding showers were the worse. No more, no more, I have no one to please anymore but myself. Getting older has it's perks.

It creeps me out knowing who's in my fridge resting, and who my husband is eating. Give me an anonymous turkey or chicken and I can cook it, but my feathered kids I can't do anymore.
