The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Morning everyone...good news...

I've always been kind of ditzy, so hoping that is just my personality and not dementia.

I think you are safe - just different. :lau

I have heard from doctors that if you live long enough you will eventually develop Alzheimer's.

I think that's BS. Blanket statements by doctors or anyone are generally just that. Have to wonder how long is 'long enough'. My mother lived to be 97 - her sisters to 101 and 103. Although they had physical problems, all were mentally sharp and could kick butt at cards.

Good morning, chat folk.

Percentages go up a lot but you are correct! not everyone gets Alzheimer dementia. Over 80 it goes up to 50% or so

You mean I only have 4 more good years ?

Maybe moving into the better years?:lau

More information:

Age The greatest risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease is advanced age. Most people with Alzheimer’s disease are diagnosed at age 65 or older. People younger than 65 can also develop the disease, although this is much rarer. (See the Prevalence section, pages 15-23). While age is the greatest risk factor, Alzheimer’s is not a normal part of aging and advanced age alone is not sufficient to cause the disease.

And my percentage was off! 38% over 85

Yep, I think it has a lot more to do with your genes than your age. Wife's Dad's side is way long lived. No dementia or Alzheimer's.
Oldest sister - 96, Oldest brother - 91 (had back cancer), Next oldest brother - 97, next older sister ... Will be 100 in November, still drives during the day. FIL is merely 92, all faculties intact.

My Dad is doing fine, will be 89 in a month. His father had dementia, died at 96 but the start of mental loss was clear 15 years earlier.

Hey, we can have an egg race...see who's Wellies lay first, yours or @sunflour
You want me to put pressure on the poor little girls???

I forget stuff a lot lately haha
For those that may not know, @KDOGG331 is WAY younger than most of us. So if SHE can forget stuff, we can too, right??
