The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I would enjoy a wood stove in winter too :)

As it is, I settle for a blanket and electric heat.
Our cats only settle for the best! Lol. Husband started leaving his bedroom door open after i sold the other 2 kittens. So yesterday the momma cat and the last kitten went in and had a great time. As usual they threw everything off the dressers to see if gravity still applies. Knocked stuff off the window sills and fell asleep on his bed. It will be interesting to see if he leaves his door open again today.:lau

"During recess, fish again started raining down, pelting children on the playground with tiny, wet fish."

:lau That must have been a fun sight! Probably some kids were screaming in panic and others were saying "Cool!"
Hi everyone - me and the kids have been really sick. It's an awful virus that seems to be doing the rounds. My DS hasn't eaten properly in a week, poor kid. I was only really sick for a couple of days but I still have a seriously annoying cough.

But I have more cockatiel babies to raise - five this time around. I forgot how cute and funny looking they were. The older ones have also had their wings clipped. That's been a bit of a shock for them but they were just eating and then going and sitting on the highest perch they could find. One of the young chicks is about a month old and still very freaked out by the whole situation, though it was starting to be a bit more relaxed yesterday afternoon. We've called it Pancake as it flattens itself down as much as it can, crest sticking straight up. The younger ones have taken it all in stride and don't seem that worried. I've only had them two and a bit days so they are doing very well.

This is poor little Pancake.

And here's a younger one

I checked my Bourkes parakeets nest to find 7 fertile eggs!!! I sure hope she doesn't hatch that many! My little Society finch chick fledged on Friday too. It's so cute (as all babies are).

I've currently got one Button quail waiting for some friends to hatch. It's in the brooder with a mirror and I've seen it talking to itself, poor little thing!

OHLD, those baby bunnies are adorable. Are you going to keep one?

What kind of chicks are they? We could play the guessing game if you post some photos (plus we love photos of fuzzy cuties). I had a couple of Pekin chicks I was convinced were boys because of their personality but I was thankfully wrong.
Awesome pictures!
I haven't had a fever with it (unlike my poor DS) but it was hard to get out of bed with every muscle and joint aching so I'd say it's flu-ish. Thank goodness for pain killers! The annoying, lingering, unproductive cough is the worst part though.

You get better soon! I was thinking, seeing as your Pokey turned out to be a boy (hope I got the name right) you might keep a girl to live with the mother. She's doing a great job as they are fat as puddings.
I had some sort of virus too. I had it for a couple weeks. I cancelled 2 days of cleaning which is something I rarely do. I had no temp either but funky sores in my mouth and sore throat and earache and terrible muscle pain. Mosquitoes were extremely bad here and I got bit many times so wondered if something come from that?

I would prefer no more girls as they make the babies. I'm okay with the boys. They are all solitary critters unless spayed and neutered after reaching sexual maturity. They do get to visit through the hutches. You did get Pokeys name right.

They are squirmy and hard to photograph. Mom was getting grumpy with me removing them too, so just a few quick shots of a few of them.
So cute!!

DMC, sorry you've been ill. Are you all better now?

We didn't make it up to Centennial this afternoon. We tried, got about 1/2 up the Snow Range and now we know why they named it that...snow, snow, snow. The higher we went the more the temp dropped (we started our trip at 43* and it dropped to 27* up there). Too much snow and the road was getting slippery. Since we weren't crazy about sliding off the side of the mountain, we cancelled lunch and came on home.

It's ok though, should be a nice quiet afternoon at home.

Wise decision!! I can't believe it's that time of the year already. We usually have soybeans almost done by now but we've had so much rain we haven't turned a wheel yet. It rained 1.25 inches through the night again. I know others have had it worse. I hope you had a relaxing day. I made a whole bunch of banana bread and froze it. I'm working on laundry now.

I got my panels for the run all assembled and DH helped me start the top for the run. We had to have a lot of duscussion and things turned out different than i envisioned but he did have a good idea to drain the water away from the coop so that is good. I hear the owl hooting and it is darned near full dark. Just have a small fire burning of debris from the goat area. Should go in and have some tea.

DMC, glad you're getting better. Maybe if you take a break the muscles will feel better.

Debby, sorry about the snow out, at least you and your DH were off a day together:)

Owls are chatty all thru the night and occasionally daytime as well here - we must have quite a number living close by.

Guess I skipped it somewhere, but are you building to replace your coop/run or adding more room for newbies?
