The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

My 2012 girls all squatted when their time came. NONE of the 2015 girls ever did, they were broody raised (Zorra, one of the 2012s). This batch was on their own for 3 weeks before Zorra decided to take them on so they are kind of "hybrid raised". I've not seen Mint or Oreo squat and they were the first to lay. Cassie and Veronica both squat, Cassie laid egg #2 today.

Our 4 cats drink just fine but DD1's cat Checkers has always knocked the dish to see where the water level is (NONE of the other cats do that) and it was messy. I finally broke down and got a "running water" dish. Didn't want a fountain that was making noise all the time. Haven't had a bit of spillage since it was put in

My kitten likes to drink out of the toilet! There are bowls of fresh water upstairs and downstairs. I keep the toilet lid down upstairs but the one downstairs is used by others so you never know. So far it has not made him sick , thank goodness!

My experience with 2 different flocks has been similar...the FL girls squatted whenever you'd glance in their direction but none of the 5 girls I have now squatted before laying. I wondered if it had something to do with the first flock not having a rooster and the 2nd flock having one for a while or that they've been different breeds from the batch before.

Cool water bowl, where did you find it?

@Teila You are lovely and photogenic, I also hate to have my pic taken. Congrats on the weight loss, it is so easy to gain, and hard to lose ( I found 15# of your loss :barnie).

Guess your cat needs his own "smart phone" - he was just trying to contact us directly ;).

I was so tired today i actually took a nap! While the construction workers were banging an hammering just below on the deck! Now that is tired!
I think i may have an inner ear infection along with the double sinus infection. If it were middle ear the fluid would just leak out because i have a tube in that ear. I am already on antibiotics, and dr office closed until Monday. Maybe the extra sleep will help.

So sorry you are feeling bad, even well the hammering so close would drive me crazy.

Crazy cats! Hope you feel better soon. :hugs

Here's the cutie we are keeping, and then our son quietly said to me he wished we could keep his favourite, who we've called Chilly as it's the most chilled out bird (unless it's time to wash his/her face). It's not the prettiest bird but it's honestly so laid back its nearly horizontal. The first time the cat jumped up next to it it didn't even flinch, whereas it sent the others into their hissing, swaying routine. So looks like we are keeping two!

Here's the gorgeous Dottie - I forgot about taking a photo before she ate but she didn't get too mucky and just needed her front wiped:

And here's Chilly at the back of this photo (with a grubby beak):

The breeder also dropped off two more chicks to us yesterday. He would've brought them today but the weather is packing up in a big way. My backyard was drying out - it wasn't a work-out getting through the mud to the chickens (not that I don't need a work-out!), but it's been raining all night, it's still pouring now, so it'll be back to sloshing through the mud.

Love your birds! There is something special about hand fed birds. I miss that. Does the breeder take all the babies to be hand fed or just some?
I think my fatigue is a combo of that infection plus i think i may be coming down with a cold. I was sneezing this morning. Oh joy.

Those cockatiel are so adorable, you are making me want one again. Such vibrant coloring too.

He leaves the best marked ones with their parents so that he has good breeding stock, but the ones that are more 'pet quality' markings wise he's been giving to me. They are all so sweet and I love them all for different reasons.

The breeder certainly has beautiful birds and they are making some gorgeous babies. His aviaries always look so clean and tidy too. Puts mine to shame, but mine does have too many birds in it at present.
