Maybe skip the shovels and get a snow blower (or plow) View attachment 1160134
Need shovels to get to the car, or garage. Seriously hoping we don't get much snow, similar to when we lived in Western TN. We don't have to go anywhere urgently so we can wait it out . planning to buy a generator and some extra gas. My truck is 4x4 so it should be good in snow. And we both had plenty of driving practise in snow when we lived in NS.

Have you considered a propane fueled generator ? That you don't have to worry about gas supply.

It's snowing!

How can that be? The weatherman said it wasn't supposed to start until 10am. And we all know those guys are never wrong!
If it helps any, you posted at 10 AM so the "weatherman" was right ... just in the wrong time zone :hmm

That's the same reason we don't have a snow shovel, moved here from FL this year!
Nah, you live in Virginia. People there might as well be tied to a post when a 1/2" of snow falls. They wait until it melts before they go out.
AND, since you are an experienced "snow driver" beware. People who don't live where it snows a fair bit are super dangerous in snow with their lack of skill/practice and summer or "All season :lau" tires. All seasons in Florida maybe! Your truck will make a dandy backstop for them to slide into.

This is Veronica, a Welsummer. She spent a lot of time this morning wandering around the barn alley and coop in a confused state when all the other girls were out by the house.

When I stopped down in the barn before I went inside about 11:30 Nuit (Black Australorp) and Angel (White Rock) were in 2 of the open nest boxes. We (DD's 1 & 2) and I left for the Farmer's Market at noon, got back about 1:30. Ate lunch (from the Bosnian lady at the FM). Took DD2 down to the barn with me about 2 to hold the new roost (replacing the handrail I tested but it was too narrow) while I mounted the support block on the outside wall and found the expected eggs in the open nest box. Then I opened the top on the community box and found:

It was not warm so laid pretty close to noon I would guess.

Here are the 5 eggs so far today (Yuki is in a box now):
Top left and working down. Penelope (2015 EE), Nuit (2015 Black Australorp), Angel (2015 White Rock), Cassie (2017 EE) and Veronica.

Debby (the Welsummer, not Debby the @NFC) has until noon EST tomorrow to lay or Veronica wins the bet :D

BTW how does one tag a member with only 3 letters in their username since the "selector" doesn't pop up until you've typed 4?
Oh, nevermind, I just realized there are spaces in @N F C

Bruce, how exciting! You got your Wellie egg, that's awesome :D

You can tag my member name putting spaces between the letters.

Congratulations!

Come on @sunflour tell Chicken Debby to step on it! (Not the egg, just the timing of the egg, lol).

Good morning folks :hugs

CapricornFarm Thank you, I might check out the gardening threads once I have a garden ;)

The house and ‘garden’ have been severely neglected for many, many years and being the only gardener in residence, the majority of trying to turn what is basically a mess of weeds, undergrowth, piled up coconuts and palm fronds back into a garden and lawn is a huge effort.

I spent 7 hours on it yesterday and have the aches, pains and green ant bites to prove it! However, it was well worth it and I can now actually see a fence on one side. My elbow seems to have copped the brunt of the aches but at least it only hurts when I move my arm

Bruceha2000 fortunately green ants are not as bad as fire ants but they are very defensive of their territory and give a nasty bite. The live in the trees and shrubs, weaving leaves together to form a nest and if you brush against one of those trees, they attack. Getting rid of all the undergrowth and leaving only lawn and palms will help to keep their numbers down and I have plans to cut the nests out of the citrus trees and/or kill off as many as I can.

I confess to 'being mean' to them and when I can, quickly puncture a hole in their nest just so they have to reweave it shut :p In my defense, they started this war I intend to win by being nasty biters :smack

Hey N F C our high today will be in the mid 30’s too .. celcius that is ;)

Washing, housework, grocery shopping and watering on the agenda for today; now I just have to work out how to do it all without moving my arm :p

@Teila you certainly have your work cut out for you! Hope your arm feels better tomorrow. Maybe a day of rest is in order?

I'm sure the garden will be lovely once you're done with it :thumbsup
