The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Hey Peeps :hugs

I have to go shopping this weekend for something to wear to the work Christmas Party. I do not usually like clothes shopping and pretty much live in shorts and T-shirts [baggy and ordered online] but having dropped nearly 20kg [44lbs], time to buy myself something nice to wear. Plus, I have a $50 gift card that I won in a raffle at the market a couple of months ago burning a hole in my pocket ;)

DMC Wow! I am pleased Hattie is OK and it was not more serious! Yes please, I would love a piece of that yummy looking pie! :drool

Aaaw Jae I hope you feel better soon! Sometimes it can all seem to hit you at the same time :hugs

N F C Woo hoo .. congrats on the fish and having a lovely weekend!

Target are definitely not my favourite people at the moment .. their Christmas Ad is annoying the *&(% out of me. Every ad break it comes on :he and 5 more weeks of it! I had a mini vent about it on FB and a friend of mine then tagged me on the Target FB page where the ad was being discussed. I voiced my opinion to which Target Australia replied “Teila, I am sure you will come around it to”. Talk about poking the bear .. I have no intention of “coming around to it” and told them so, along with the fact that I was interested that they presumed to know me and that their response had extended the amount of time I felt it would be until I needed to shop in Target again :p

Only one bit of ‘news’ from me. Last night on my bike ride I encountered a lost dog. She was just running everywhere, in a panic, breathing heavily and pretty much near to exhaustion. She looked like a Corgi x Staffy so I nicknamed her Coffy ;) Anyhow, I managed to score a piece of rope to act as a lead from one of the locals who also gave her a drink of water on their front lawn and then I took her home, asking everyone along the way if they had seen her before. I posted her picture on our community site and after she had settled down a bit, took her for another walk down to the beach to see if she wanted to go anywhere in particular, again asking everyone I saw if they had seen her before or knew her owners; no luck and she still seemed to not know where she wanted to go and just pulled in any and all directions. So, back home we went but sadly, because of the chickens, cats and Jessie the dog, we had no way of keeping her here overnight and had to ring animal control to come and get her. Hubby works at the Council [local Government] so he knew the animal control guy and will be able to find out if her owners are found. She was wearing a collar, no tag but the AC guy scanned for a microchip and she had one but he did not have access to the database at the time to check the number against the records.

Anyways, I left for my bike ride at 04:45PM and finally ‘settled’ for the evening and dinner at 07:30PM. Sometimes I wish I did not care but I could not leave her running around the village panicked and at risk of getting run over or just dropping from exhaustion :(
You are a good person Teila! Good luck with the shopping.

Wow those people were really stupid!
Oh wow you find a lot of animals! We don't really have many lost animals here

And he LOVES being near us, always demanding attention, so I don't think he could be outside full-time. I guess we are his flock lol

Working dogs get lots of attention from their handlers, but aren't supposed to get attached to others.

In case anyone was wondering :)lol:), the smoked trout was great!

:drool I love smoked trout:drool

Good morning all! I got my carpets done. Holy smokes that was work. Hubby had to help finish as the muscles just quit working. I don’t think the machine was working right and it had a leak somewhere. I said next time I’m hiring it done. It is still quite wet this morning after fans going in all rooms through the night. Hubby even brought the dehumidifier up last night and I emptied it at 5 this morning already. Hope it’s dry by Thursday. P. S. Debby, I baked a pie for us the day before. The wife of the guy I made this for was tickled pink. She was hoping to bribe her granddaughters boyfriend with a piece to take her furniture off the deck for the winter. She had an outdoor cat at her house(she lives about 6 miles down the road)that was another twin to my Spuds... daddy apparently travels or he was maybe the dad.

I hope you aren't too sore from all that work yesterday. It will be nice to have them done though. Are you going to have a crowd for Thanksgiving? Hard to believe it's coming up so soon.

Sounds like Spuds daddy was a gypsy cat!

Thanks, I feel better then I thought I was going too. I didn’t realize how dirty they were until I emptied the water, yuck!! They look much better. My nephew is having Thanksgiving. His brother lives with him. Their mother is going to clean before hand as I’m sure it is not very tidy. We are all bringing the food. My best friend and her family will be there also as they live right down the block from my nephew and they are friends with the boys. What are your plans?

Aaaaaaw CntryBoy777 Gabbie is adorable! :love

My special girl, who I am pretty sure I have already told you all about, was Charlie-Bear a Cavalier King Charles x Border Collie.

I was at a low point in my life and on walking passed a pet shop, she picked me! I literally had nowhere to live at that time and had to ask the shop owner to keep her for me while I secured accommodation. Charlie-Bear got attacked by another dog and had her skull fractured when she was only a couple of months old and I nearly lost her. Sadly, possibly due to scar tissue, she developed epilepsy when she was around two years old but we managed to control it to the occasional break through seizure with medication. Later in life, she had also developed pancreatitis and the seizures were no longer controllable with medication. She started to have episodes of long periods of blindness following the seizures which were very traumatic for her. I had to make the heart breaking decision to let her go on Christmas Day in 2010 after a particularly severe seizure. She was 11. The Vet said she did really well to survive as long as she did.

As I was renting, I had her cremated because I was not leaving her in a strange place and she is now sitting next to FIL’s dog Inu who, passed 5 years ago, in their respective urns in the lounge room.

I have not been able to bring myself to get another dog and still miss Charlie-Bear so very much. As you know, we now live with my FIL and he has a dog, Jessie and I find myself getting more and more attached to her which is scary.

I love our fur and feathered babies and losing any of them is so difficult. I always say, no more but never learn
You are selling yourself way too short. In the short while that I have followed this thread, your love of animals comes shining thru....most of the animals that we keep and tend too have an average of 10yrs of life or less under good conditions. When you limit yourself and other animals to just 1 "in a Lifetime", you are cheating yourself and those other animals from sharing in that big ole Heart of yours, and ya are cheating others from experiencing the warm, love, and care that ya can and will give to them....ya ain't even willing to give them or yourself the Chance of having many more of those experiences that ya had with Charlie-Bear. Even had she not had that bad experience at such a young age, she wasn't going to live forever. I've had many really close animals that have created many memories and special moments, but there are memories of each one, and if I had closed my heart and refused to allow myself to accept another or others, then those memories wouldn't be there. Yes, losing them does hurt, but it heals and it shouldn't be replaced by fear, bitterness, and rejection. No, others will never take their place, but there is plenty of room in that big ole heart of yours for many more than just a few limited memories.....there are others out there that are just itching to have a chance to make memories with ya....and there is nothing wrong with embracing them and making those memories that will last a Lifetime.....:)

And had you considered the possibility that while the fish may be cooked with the head on, there is no requirement to SERVE it with the head on??

Thanks, I feel better then I thought I was going too. I didn’t realize how dirty they were until I emptied the water, yuck!!
One reason we do hardwood floors. You can never vacuum a rug and actually get it clean. All the allergens just thrive there. If you have an area rug small enough that you can take it outside, first vacuum it every direction possible until it is "clean". Then take it outside and beat it. You might want to stand upwind.

Re: LGDs - yes they are built for cold, just like chickens. You may note that while the dog is laying out on the snow, the snow falling on it doesn't melt. And if they have a herd they are guarding they WANT to be outside at night when the danger is greatest. And yes the idiot that started the "toss them in with the herd and ignore them" finally died but his poor advice lives on in the internet. It is likely the first thing you find when searching info about LGDs. Too bad it can't be excised from the net.

Will you be getting the same model? Hope you get it very soon.

Yes, same model as it matches our stand alone fridge. As long as they agree with the technician that we deserve a new one, and if they try and wiggle out of it DH says what was wrong with it hasn't all happened outside the warranty period.

Debby, I bet that smoked trout was delicious! I love smoked fish.

Now I'm going back to bed - our dopey white cat has been floating past the birds in the dark so I've been sitting here with the light on waiting for them to get over their scare and get back on their perch. I must start covering them up at night.
