I apologize to any that it may upset, but I will share the events without the pic.
If anyone might be upset by you protecting your flocks, I'll be happy to link in a picture of what a possum did to a chicken in the coop of someone I know on another forum. Let's just say it was a lot more gruesome than what you find when a coon decapitates a chicken.

There are dog proof traps that can catch coons and possums. Basically a cylinder they have to reach in to get the food. Presumably they will get the wary ones that won't go into a cage trap. Not sure if a cat would reach in, probably would if it is baited with something they like.

That cherry egg must have looked real - I wonder if the chickens are really fooled by plastic?
They seem to be, though I weigh them down with some rocks so they are closer to real eggs "by feel". And to make it easier for me, many of the plastic ones are two tone (mix and NOT match).

Naw, we don't keep any open food out except for the naturally occurring food that poaaums will eat....we have plenty of them around here and coons too. They are the reason the birds are locked up at nite and their house is pretty close to the house....we make sure they are put up before dark around here and the free range chickens are closed up in their yard for a couple of hours before sundown. We have outside cats and the neighbor does too, so I don't set traps because releasing the cats would be a daily chore, so I keep a sharp eye out and take care of any predator that is seen....keeping them thinned out is the only way to have half a chance of protecting our animals. Also, this is the reason there aren't any trees inside either of the bird yards and will never be.....:)

I'm planning on fencing in an area that may have a tree - but think if I surround the tree with hawk net it will be ok? Just a daytime, when someone is home area. Or do you think I need to exclude the tree?

Yes, I do talk to the animals here. They listen and usually seem interested in what I say. It of course helps that I am the one that feeds them! They better listen!

For sure for most pets, but DH is now doing most feedings for my Buddy Cat and he (the cat not DH) still listens to me most ;).

My cats listen to me then they just do whatever they want. Hey, they're cats! That's what cats do.

:thumbsup mine tells me what to do :gigand I listen to him.

I do talk to the animals, but that's just me. They get really aggravated when I don't respond properly after they have talked to me. Dani, our golden retriever (she will never be class valedictorian), thinks that we are particularly stupid.

I thought they were exceptionally smart dogs? I've never had one, so don't know :idunno

:lau.

The lady who helps me clean my house sent me a Thanksgiving card, tried to get photo, but it isn't photogenic....Front has a RIR crossing the road with A Thanksgiving Riddle for You....Why did the chicken cross the road???

Inside answer: He saw what happened to the Turkey..Ha-Ha! Happy Thanksgiving :D

I'm certain that male cats bond more with female humans and female cats bond more with male humans...or at least that's my experience.

Hmmm, so what does that mean that our boy Bam Bam prefers DH? Is there something I should know?

That's the guy, trying out his new bed. So far, he's only worked up enough courage to put his front 1/2 in it. He's such a scaredy cat.
