The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Good Morning...

We had possibility of snow predicted for early yesterday, so got up around 5 am to try to catch a few flurries...but only cold and rain all day:barnie. And our internet service was off all day for no apparent reason....Today it's quite cold for our area, but had the light bulb "heater" set up for our flock to make sure they had water this am...but it did not come on. :duc. I got "suited up" to go out and give them a fresh water ant thank goodness, DH woke up and went out and handled the problem :bow.

Maybe we need to get a dog heated water bowl instead?

Gabbie made it home safe and sound

Glad Gabbie if finally home, love the pics.

Teil, your gardens are beautiful, a wonderful place for you to "escape" and relax - assuming you will try taking some time to just enjoy it :)

DD, I wouldn't have had your motivation to do the snow shoveling:hugs...you deserve a thousand hugs.

I shoveled the deck and steps for hubby because if he shovels he loosens up more kidney stones!

That is what I am using since one of the nipples built into the bottom of the nest box failed a week before Thanksgiving. I would have to take the entire nest box apart to replace the nipple. Heated dog dishes are not that expensive and have built in thermostats so they don't run all the time and no need to get a Thermocube for the same purpose. The heated dog dish works fine but it is out in the barn alley so no water in the coop for "pre roost time after scratch" drinks. And it gets dirty in the alley, nipple water is always clean :D

Morning all!

Funny about the weather...yesterday was sunny here, no snow. It seems I get when you guys don't, so thanks for taking my share of the weather yesterday :D

Still trying to use DH's slow PC. Guess I'm going to have to call the Mac support people and I'm really not looking forward to that at all. Hey @Teila write me up a ticket and give me a call

Tomorrow DH and I are leaving for an overnight trip to Fort Collins. Sort of an early Christmas gift to each other...we'll do a lot of walking the old downtown area, get a nice meal or two then head back home Tuesday. Should be fun!

Gabbie is a beauty cntryboy!

DMC, thanks for sharing the kitty pics...they can look so sweet sometimes

Teila, enjoy the garden for yourself...at least you don't have to worry about the guys giving you conflicts over what you want to do with it.

sunflour, I got a heated water pet bowl from Amazon as a backup to their heated poultry waterer. Maybe you can find a bowl in town somewhere (I'm sure you have more shopping options than we do here).

Gotta run and finish up the laundry, you all have a great day!

I’m using a dog water bowl and so far it is working good. It was not frozen @ 6* the other day. I don’t know how it will be when we get below zero.

I just ordered one from Chewy (figured it was cheaper than in stores). I checked after I bought it and it's even cheaper than Amazon.

I got the K&H one.

Also got some dog shampoo on Amazon after Googling dog dandruff and finding this

https://www.dog-care-knowledge.com/dog-dandruff.html

Got the tar & sulfur, aloe remoisturizer, and a shampoo mixing bottle.

Gator has had kind of bad dandruff lately and idk why. Of course, I will try changing his diet again too cause it's probably the food since he got more itchy after switching to it but I figured this shampoo can't hurt. He needs a bath anyway. He kind of smells hah

Except now it's too cold to bathe him and we disconnected the hose so idk what we're gonna do.

And I somewhat regretted it/was nervous after buying it because his coat doesn't really look the shepherd in that picture, he's actually pretty shiny. But it's more just in ome section, like along the longer strip of fur on his back and his butt/leg feathers. And when I just brushed him I got tons of dandruff out. So I decided it's definitely good and will help hopefully. Or prevent something.

Or maybe the dandruff is just from shedding/losing his old coat? But he's been itchy and there were a lot of little white flakes on the brush.

Idk.

But he's never had any issues

Well can you bathe him in a bath tub? I do the little dog in the kitchen sink.

Unfortunately not because he's 130 pounds and like 30 inches tall... a BIG dog. Plus we just had both the bathrooms redone last year so I don't really want to ruin the new tub and I'm sure my mom will agree. And she is really the only one that uses the tub so I'm sure she will not approve of her tub getting covered in dog hair lol

My shower is huge so he could definitely fit but again, there's the dog hair issue. He could also fit in the other shower but it's smaller.

Besides the dog hair issue, I don't think I could get him to stand in the shower or to go upstairs.

Although I might actually have to try it. I wonder if there is a drain catch or something for the dog hair? Maybe I could put a towel or something down
